Everyday there is a song that goes with us wherever we go, or a song that would fit perfectly in any given situation of our life, or a song that you just haven't heard yet, but you are eager to discover...
Whatever the case may be, this will be a space dedicated to show anyone who runs into this blog, the song that was stuck in my head any given day, the song I would listen to if..., or just to give a simple recommendation of what I think is a worth-listening song...
"This is basic plucking, or, the Staunton Lick. Hold down the chord of C, pluck a fretted bass string with the thumb of the right hand, and pluck the third, second and first strings altogether with the first, second and third fingers of the right hand..."
*A QUICK ONE: I remember I discovered this through 'Napster', as it was recommended when you started the program... Nice song to chill out...
"It seems you've mistaken me for someone who cares, I'm just a
dirt bag under the weather and overrated..."
*A COMMENT: I also heard this for the first time through 'The 61' site. This guy releases his music under 'copyleft' license, which is allowing the free distribution and/or modified versions of some art work, program or something else with the requirement of keeping the same rights (lefts) for the modified or shared version, in plain English, keeping it for free.
"Hip, under nothing, propped up by your other one, face 'way from the sun, just have to keep a dialogue, teach our bodies: haunt the cause. I was only trying to spell a loss..."
*A COMMENT: Here's Bon Iver's new single, from his eponymous album. The meanings of Bon Iver's songs always "trouble" me as he uses so many metaphors, so in a way you can interpret them the way you feel it, but of course there's always like a "defined" path to follow. From this song, which somehow reminds to Sting's 'Fields of Gold', I can take that it is about some couple, but the lady ran out of love or interest, but they remain together. As for the guy, he's always longing for her to love him, but he knows his role, and event though it seems twisted, they know they are together in this, so they just continue the "charade" but in an amicable way, where there's actually affection but nothing more than that, a big affection, but no love...
"Oh my god what have I done? Wasted my life and forgotten how to love, so if I was angry, I'm sorry if I am, pass the gates of heaven only much depends, it's not too late though, not too late if we turn back..."
"New day dawning, I wonder what it holds for me, sun is shining, I don't think that it is shining for me, I look around, nothing seems to have changed, this dirty town, it hasn't some how rearranged..."
"I hear your voice, call my name, but in my heart, It's still pouring rain, and it ain't pretty, no it ain't pretty... But you say "Hold on, hold on, believe me, all the plans against you one by one, will come undone..." I shall overcome..."
*A QUICKIE?: Actually it's gonna be longer ha! I just got my wisdom teeth removed, no big cheeks, just pain inside my mouth, especially the right side, it feels like a really bad bite, like an intense sting, I hope it doesn't get nastier as the numbness disappear. I'm kind of jaded, lately there have been some setbacks and incidentals and almost no time to take care of them... my knees and the respective therapy, the medical paperwork and several payments to be done and now this (and of course the money spent on that :S)... I know maybe I'm whining a bit too much but it feels like something conspired to send this stuff to me all at once and I have got to admit that sometimes I feel all alone, with no one to turn to, besides my intention is not bothering anyone with my issues, I've always been a 'do it yourself guy' in most of the cases, but the truth is that this mad season too shall pass, and as a matter of fact, there have been people that have helped me overcome some of these nuisances and to them I want to send a big big THANK YOU! I really appreciate you cared even when you didn't have to... That being said... HAVE AN EXCELLENT WEEKEND!!
HERE'S THE STUDIO VERSION, SLIGHTLY LONGER AND DIFFERENT... JUST IN CASE
"It sounds like we would've had a great deal to say to each other, I bet when I leave my body for the sky the wait will be worth it..."
*A FACT: This song is about his is about the loss of his grandfather, whom he never met, as he passed away before before he was born.
Artist: Local Natives
Songs: Shape Shifter
Album: Gorilla Manor
Year: 2009
"Your eyes, they swell like a riot, deranged, tomorrow you're laughing like a child again..."
"Why does the soul hallucinate? I've got control, I shift my shape, if flesh and bone do not contain the mirrors don't reflect my face..."
*ANOTHER FACT: This time not that accurate, I think that it is a song directed to oneself, by shape they mean moods, it is about how you change mood so abruptly or quickly, some more than others, it is about all the different facets we show...
"Remember those times on the telephone line trying to break through to you, I'm on the other side of this world, I wish I was there with you..."
"I let you know that even though I can hear your voice, don't you know that touch is my choice? Even though I can hear your voice, you're still so far away..."
*A BRIEF CLARIFICATION: I did not know which song to post, and yesterday my cousin, who know is headed to Boston, requested this song, so it was a perfect match! My blank mind and someone filling that space... So there you are! Enjoy and have a nice stay over there! Be safe!
"And it's been a while since I could hold my head up high. And it's been a while since I first saw you. And it's been a while since I could stand on my own two feet again. And it's been a while since I could call you..."
"And it's been a while since I can say I love myself as well. And it's been a while since I've gone and fucked things up just like I always do. And it's been a while but all that shit seems to disappear when I'm with you..."
*NO COMMENT TODAY... AND IT'S BEEN AWHILE... PFFFFF! u.u
"Another turning point, a fork stuck in the road, time grabs you by the wrist, directs you where to go, so make the best of this test, and don't ask why, it's not a question, but a lesson learned in time..."
"It's something unpredictable, but in the end it's right, I hope you had the time of your life..."
*A THOUGHT: Yesterday I heard that Ryan Dunn had died in a car crash, some may consider it dumb but I'm shocked, but I mean, I had great great times watching 'Jackass' when I was a teenager and I sure have great memories if it as well. I spent those days watching this guy's pranks... And damn! You wonder why and it just doesn't make any sense, well actually it does, I'm not to judge, but the way he died was stupid, a 100% avoidable, now we have 2 people dead, and could have been more, all because a poor decision was taken... I'm sure he would have chosen differently in a heartbeat if given the chance, but what's done it's done. The only thing to say here is that those were the days! So, thank you very much for the large amount of laughs... Rest in Peace dude!
"I want to live in a house surrounded by snow and birds and wood and stars, and all along the front of the stage there'll be fairy lights as bright as any city light..."
"I was lost in the nighttime, how am I a stranger to you when we're friends? I'm young and I made awful mistakes, you're older and you do the same..."
*A REMARK: Wish I had something to say or write, but my lack of inspiration keeps on going, so I think the only thing left for me to do is to wish you a NICE START TO THE WEEK and to offer you this song, which I first heard on 'Chuck'. I hope you enjoy it!
"I sing myself to sleep a song from the darkest hour, secrets I can't keep inside of the day. Swing from high to deep, extremes of sweet and sour, hope that God exists, I hope, I pray..."
"Now I'm relieved to hear that you've been to some far out places, it's hard to carry on when you feel all alone. Now I've swung back down again, it's worse than it was before, if I hadn't seen such riches I could live with being poor..."
*A COMMENT: I don't know what to write for this post, lack of inspiration? Might be, unwillingness? might be a cause as well... So I'll leave you with some stupid questions:
If a person owns a piece of land, do they own it all the way down to the center of the earth?
Why is it called alcoholics anonymous when the first thing you do is stand up and say "hi, my name's Bob. I'm an alcoholic"?
Why does Goofy stand on two legs when Pluto remains on four? They're both dogs.
If 4 out of 5 people suffer from diarrhea does that mean the fifth one enjoys it?
Have you ever imagined a world with no hypothetical situations?
If you try to fail, and succeed, which have you done?
Why does Donald Duck wear a towel when he comes out of the shower, when he doesn't usually wear any pants?
If the #2 pencil is the most popular, why's it still #2?
"Lately I think you know it's true, that's it, it's all over I'm through. For a while we can smile for the people that we're passing and even if they're asking we can lie..."
"Looks like the sun is gonna set, know that there's nothing I regret. All the things that I learned, well, I'd like to think I earned it, no need to go and burn it down now..."
*NO COMMENT: EXCEPT THAT I'VE BEEN MEANING TO POST THIS SONG SINCE LAST SUNDAY, BUT SOME OTHER SONGS HAVE BEEN GETTING IN THE WAY. AND OH BOY! DOES THIS SONG PUT ME IN A NOSTALGIC MOOD, BUT IN A GOOD WAY OF COURSE... HAVE A GOOD ONE!!
"It's my own design, it's my own remorse. Help me to decide, help me make the most of freedom and of pleasure, nothing ever lasts forever, everybody wants to rule the world..."
"I can't stand this indecision, married with a lack of vision, everybody wants to rule the world. Say that you'll never never never never need it, one headline why believe it? Everybody wants to rule the world..."
*A COMMENT: Today while at work, 3 situations happened that immediately made me think of the title of this song. And on a deeper "analysis" I came to the conclusion that almost everyone, to a lesser or greater extent, has a side that wants to shine, to control, to stand out from the rest, to have some power, and this is not an exclusive want or necessity, because I think that from the richest man to the poorest one there's always this need of power, the need of controlling, whether they are the owner of a business, a warehouse manager, an accountant, a clerk, etc., given the chance to have power, to control, or to make themselves noticeable, most are going to take it. This is not to be confused with the kind of shining as in seizing opportunities, no, this has to do more with power, with this sense of superiority, and sometimes the arrogant style. And please do notice this is me somehow generalizing out of some situations that happened to me today, and I say somehow because of the lesser or greater extent of power necessity you have within you, but maybe you don't have any.
"Son, what have you done? You're caught by the river, you're coming undone..."
"Life, you know it can't be so easy, but you can't just leave it 'cause you're not in control no more..."
"And you give it all away, would you give it all away now? Don't let it come apart, don't want to see you come apart..."
*OH BOY, AM I TIRED: Sometimes I really feel like saying "fuck this shit!" but then I reconsider and put myself together again. Some things are not easy, like focusing on some stuff you don't give much of a damn about, especially when there's constantly external crap being thrown at you from all sides, making it almost impossible to put your 100% on what you are doing, it is a bummer when you are being constantly distracted. All I know is that I don't want to be that mediocre fucker, no, not in this life. And if there's one thing I've learned and admired from my old man is that even if you don't like it, and if life has already led you into that road, you are supposed to do it the best way possible, even if it's just for pure personal satisfaction. I might add to that that you have got to know when enough it's enough, you're supposed to do it right, yes, but you're not supposed to take it forever. Besides, everything has some knowledge in it, there's always some learning to be done. And just remember, if life turns its back on you, you grab it by the ass and tell her "Listen to me bitch (you know, 'cause life's a bitch) and listen to me good, I know you're always going to be throwing your goddamn crap and tests at me, but I know how to take them and overcome them, and more importantly I will enjoy doing it!"
Artist: Trey Lockerbie Song: Hummingbird Album: Hummingbird EP Year: 2009
"I push a needle and I pull the thread trying to put myself back together again. She feels alive when they call her name, one look in her eyes you know I feel the same, yeah..."
"And I, well, I believe that eventually we'll get what we're after but I need it now. And all I see out my window is a hummingbird flying backwards, and it's all I think about..."
*A LATE LATE POST: Again a belated post, but what can you do when sleeps attacks you so early? You don't want to waste it because then you'll have trouble finding sleep again. So without further ado, here's today post. HAVE A NICE START TO THE WEEK!
"Unless you breathe once, you'll find your tears filling the galaxy, It's another dark road that you'll walk on your own. Unless you breathe once, you'll find your heart filling with gravity, you're another lost soul without a place of your own..."
"...Our days of youth have come and gone, so put your heart where your heart belongs..."
*JUST FOR THE 'CHILL' OF IT: Just a good song to chill out, from a CD that was hard to get, from a band that no longer is...
"The call to arms was never true, let's take a ride and push it through suspended animation glue, blame it on apartheid. Let's spend the night in Jimmy Choo's, I'll give you coats and cheap shampoo, I'll give u nothing else to do..."
"The call to arms was never true, I'm medicated how are you? Let's take a dive swim right through sophisticated points of view..."
*A QUICK FACT: This song was written out of a trip Brian Molko took to Iceland, he was impressed by the extreme low rate of criminality there, along with the fact there's not much to do there, according to him. So, taking into account the previous facts, I think this song is written from the point of view of some guy who lives there and he's so bored with the lifestyle and his environment, and in order to give some excitement to it, he's telling his criminal plans to someone, again all with the sole purpose of spicing up his life.
"There's a place I go when I'm alone, do anything I want, be anyone I wanna be, but it is us I see and I cannot believe I'm fallin', that's where I'm going, where are you going? Hold it close won't let this go... Dream catch me, yeah, dream catch me when I fall or else I won't come back at all..."
*A FORREST GUMP PHRASE: "I'm pretty tired... I think I'll go home now." If only I was home, but I do feel tired so I think I'll go to sleep now...
"Head on the wall and my piss hardly makes the stall, and this time it's not an act, this time I swear it's fact..."
"I'm so lost and I live just around the corner..."
*A QUICK ONE: So here's a late post, I was so sleepy last night and I didn't want that sleepy state to pass me by, so I decided I would post the song later, but here it is: Arkells. And if you want to relive one of the first posts of this blog, here it is Arkells again!
"Simple math, it's how our bodies even got here. Sinful math, the ebb and flow to multiply..."
"What if I was wrong and no one cared to mention? What if it was true, and all we thought was right was wrong? Simple math, the truth cannot be fractioned either way..."
*NO COMMENT JUST REMEMBER TO WEAR THE SEATBELT!! BUCKLE UP BOYS AND GIRLS!!
