Everyday there is a song that goes with us wherever we go, or a song that would fit perfectly in any given situation of our life, or a song that you just haven't heard yet, but you are eager to discover...
Whatever the case may be, this will be a space dedicated to show anyone who runs into this blog, the song that was stuck in my head any given day, the song I would listen to if..., or just to give a simple recommendation of what I think is a worth-listening song...
Artist: Remy Zero Song: Chloroform Days Album: Remy Zero Year: 1996
"On terrible wings, no change in the weather, no stopping the weary sun... On chloroform days, I'll drive them together, I'll fly nearly on..."
*A BRIEF NOTE: I found this CD in Mexico, which I found extra weird. The price? 35 pesos, which is more or less like 2.50 US dollar. An awesome bargain, a no-brainer call.
Artist: The Tallest Man On Earth Song: Wind and Walls Album: There's No Leaving Now Year: 2012
"Well, ‘All is well in order’ is what you thought you heard them say and so you drifted off to see what’s not in yourself, light is turning slowly will it lay out on the plains? No more nights of what you wrote back then, no relief of no rain..."
"...This is not the future but I sense it’s right up there, oh, just another hour, another pass, another day anywhere..."
"Make your move now and try to win the game, but in the end it always stays the same, don't shy away behind those lost in lines, I read between them almost everytime..."
*JUST A LITTLE NOTE: This has got to be one of the most expensive CD's I have ever bought, I even hesitated to buy it.
*A QUICK ONE: This is a day when the end of an era might have arrived. A bad day? Perhaps, everyone has had one of those, what makes it more impressive is the fact that for almost 10 years he didn't had one. I hope I'm wrong, but we kind of saw it coming, it's a natural thing. I think 17 is going to be Roger's final number. Again, I hope I'm wrong because I would like to see the 18th.
"I can give a hundred million reasons to build a barricade, I blame it on the changing of the seasons, the thoughts that I've conveyed..."
"Look around at all the plastic people who live without a care, try to sit with me around my table but never bring a chair..."
*NO ACTUAL COMMENT: If you don't follow this blog, and even if you do, the odds are you don't know how I feel about this album, so I'm going to leave this LINK, just in case.
"El Dorado won the lotto, all that cash and not a clue, but now you know what I've been through..."
*SOME QUESTIONS AND SOME ANSWERS: What's a power song? It's a song that motivates you and gives you that extra push. But what makes a a power song a power song? Well, that depends. Sure, I have several tunes that always cheer me up when running. The most common perception, and in most cases, is that it has to be lively, upbeat and "fast". But power songs come in different forms and shapes. I take into account two things that go hand in hand. Firstly, I don't even have the option to bring the power song when I need it. That's why my running playlist is always on shuffle. Secondly, I am made of moments. Sometimes, instead of liveliness, I need something to go long and steady and when that happens I need a "mellow" one to give me momentum, one that could make me soar. Peaks, highs and lows, on a song are important to me as well, but I will leave that topic for some other time.
Ultimately, it all comes down to tastes and preferences the good thing is that there is always a "skip song" button.
"Be my, be my DNA, don't wanna fade away, rewind, there's no yesterday, it's our discovery... Dream time, it's a special place, let's keep each other awake, our hearts, now they beat the same..."
*A QUICKIE: This is just out of the oven. One listen in and I could tell it doesn't have the kind of catchy songs as the last CD, yet it delivers.
Artist: Wheatus Song: Love is a Mutt From Hell Album: Wheatus Year: 2000
"This is a story about a friend of mine, he is abnormally intelligent, he could bust a phatty rhyme, even when he got up in the blunt, but that all changed when the girl who he lives with came to town, he let her take him away from me so I had to ask him how, that's when he said, "She takes advantage of me! She takes advantage of me! She takes advantage of me! She takes advantage of me! She even knows when I pee! I think eventually she'll make a meal out of me."
"I couldn't find quiet, I went out in the rain, I was just soakin' my head to unrattle my brain, somebody said you disappeared in a crowd, I didn't understand then, I don't understand now..."
*A QUICK REMARK: Cool piano part here. Cool booklet for the CD.
Artist: The Rubens Song: My Gun Album: The Rubens Year: 2012
"Open my eyes, my body cold, it shouldn't end this way, I want to grow old, scramble to my feet and stumbled home, I forgave my girl, I don't want to be alone, she took me back and stitched me up, the whole time smiling 'cause she won, but one day I'll get back... My gun."
*A COMMENT: The verse above reminds me of a story, titled 'The Cake Incident'. Give or take, it went like this. I made something very cool for this girl, she acted standoffish and not very courteous, like if I had been rude or insensitive, when it was the opposite. Somehow she managed to turn things on me and somehow the dignity-lacking bastard in me went that far I even apologized. Not my proudest moment.
Artist: Charlie Straight Song: Coco Album: Someone With a Slow Heartbeat Year: 2012
"Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah Coco, you take my clothes off , I didn't know I was in heaven, I didn't know heaven was so soft..."
"Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah Coco, I take your clothes off and we both stare at the ceiling, I don’t understand why you’re going..."
*A QUICK HEADS UP: Here's a song, from a Czech band, I heard like two or three weeks ago and completely forgot about, and today as I was running, the memory of it just snapped in my brain randomly.
Artist: Capital Cities Song: Safe and Sound Album: In a Tidal Wave of Mystery Year: 2013
"I could lift you up, I could show you what you want to see and take you where you want to be..."
"You could be my luck, even if the sky is falling down, I know that we'll be safe and sound..."
*A COMMENT: Well, I honestly don't know how to feel about this song. I guess I could say I like it, but that's it, nothing less, nothing more. It does not blow my mind, I don't despise it either. I somehow get the feeling this is the kind of song 'YOLO sayers' might listen to, the kind of song that could be heard at a party full of dumb teenagers, the kind of song a couple of cousins of mine might listen to, needless to say, they are YOLO sayers and sometimes I'd like to high-five them, in the face, with a chair. Having said that, why am I posting it? Don't know. I guess I'm getting carried away. By what? Don't know either, I'm just posting the kind of song that is and will be played everywhere you turn. Oh the irony... I'm contributing. And now as I'm writing I remembered the reason why I'm posting this. Yeah, I know now. Ever since the first time I heard it, I found an uncanny similarity with N.A.S.A from Futurecop! I thought they might have sampled it. It has to be. But could not find any piece of information regarding that. Futurecop!'s is just a sick tune. I remember I heard a sample of it on a rapper's song. I was disgusted.
Artist: Afroman Song: Because I Got High Album: The Good Times Year: 2001
"I was gonna clean my room until I got high, I was gonna get up and find the broom but then I got high... My room is still messed up and I know why... Why man? 'cause I got high, 'cause I got high, 'cause I got high..."
*A QUICK ONE: I was gonna post a song but then I got... What??? Nah, just kidding, this is just a late filler...
Artist: Fitz and The Tantrums Song: Out of My League Album: More Than Just a Dream Year: 2013
"You are out of my league, all the things I believe, you were just the right kind, yeah, you are more than just a dream, you are out of my league, got my heartbeat racing, if I die don't wake me, 'cause you are more than just a dream..."
*A COMMENT: Here's the deal. I had heard of this band, and by "heard" I mean read just the name that was it, didn't check them out. Then I was at this record store and saw this CD and thought to myself "Mmm, this is really weird, should I?" I let it pass. Wrong fucking choice. Now I have checked them out and I liked them and regret my poor judgement.
Artist: Queens of the Stone Age Song: ...Like Clockwork Album: ...Like Clockwork Year: 2013
"Everyone it seems has somewhere to go and the faster the world spins the shorter the lights will glow..."
"Most of what you see my dear is purely for show because not everything that goes around comes back around, you know, holding on too long is just fear of letting go because not everything that goes around comes back around, you know, one thing that is clear it’s all down hill from here..."
*A QUICK REMARK: It has not even been 10 days since I posted a song from this band and from this same album. The reason? I really liked the song and the lyrics. Could you imagine? As a 25 year-old guy I somehow sense life as if it was sand in my hands so I can imagine the thoughts of a 40 or 50 year-old person.
Anyhow, I can see this CD becoming a constant for the next few months, what did I like about it? I think it is their most different CD, as in more melodic stuff, but yet it keeps their "trademark".
