Athlete - With You I Never Lose

Artist: Athlete

Song: With You I Never Lose

Album: The Getaway EP

Year: 2009

"I won't miss a beat, even when there is no sound. Unspoken promises, sticking with you all the way, cos I know it's gonna be a great story some day. Where did the hours go?"

*A QUICK ONE: In an effort to post on time, and having no time to write because it's only 5 seven minutes until tomorrow, I'll only write that the meaning of this song is pretty obvious. It got me thinking of destiny, you know, how and when you met important people in your life. My mind wandered and I went everywhere and nowhere at the same time.

Ok Go - End Love

Artist: Ok Go

Song: End Love

Album: Of the Blue Colour of the Sky

Year: 2010

"So won't you, so won't you talk to me? It's time to decide, 'cause no one's gonna save you if you don't swim for the boat, no one's gonna tsave you if you won't take the rope, no one's gonna find you when you're hiding in the dark..."

*A QUICK THOUGHT: I really like this song, but I can't help thinking that if this had been used in an 80's flick like 'Karate Kid' or 'The Revenge of the Nerds', you know one of those where the underdog ends up prevailing, it would have fit perfectly, perhaps not because of its lyrics, I mean they count and all, but the whole vibe of it just hits the nail.

Fiona Apple - Dull Tool

Artist: Fiona Apple

Song: Dull Tool

Album: This is 40 Soundtrack

"You, you don’t kiss when you kiss, you don’t fuck when you fuck, you don’t say what you mean, you don’t talk loud enough, no pulse in your impulse, celebration's impossible..."

*A QUICK ONE: You see Paul Rudd riding his bike helplessly begging to be run over and you think of this song, or vice versa. Awesome song. Pretty obvious to read through its meaning.

The Stills - Being Here

Artist: The Stills

Song: Being Here

Album: Oceans Will Rise

Year: 2008

"Somewhere singing songs about a girl I hurt, I've been everywhere enough, I've been torn apart by the world, but there's apples in the trees and diamonds in the earth, I've been losing my mind, somehow it can't get worse..."

*A QUICK COMMENT: Today as I was running and this was playing, I began to think that with the right amount of pyrotechnics or the right light work this could have been an awesome song for a stadium-sized gig.

For me the song, as the title states, is about being alive, here, and the perks of it, and I don't know why but to me it goes beyond the mere fact of our existence as individuals in this time, it goes far behind, to the cavemen. I know, it sounds weird but I could easily see this song on a short video with a collage of humanity throughout time, depicting the perks of being alive.

Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros - Better Days

Artist: Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros

Song: Better Days

Album: Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros

Year: 2013

"Too dumb to say goodbye that's some cliché shit, make me wanna cry, just know that every time I look in your eye, I see better, I see better, better days..."

"Try to remember, that you can't forget, down with history, up with your head, for sweet tomorrow, she never fell from grace, we might still know sorrow but we got better days..."

*SOME SENTENCES: Releasing a new album just a year after the previous one? Well, that's an odd feature nowadays, which leads me to assume, no, not assume, guess, guess is the right word, guess three things. 1.- Either they got creative big time or they had a bunch of songs left from previous recordings. 2.- They want to seize the momentum 'Here' and their touring with the 'Mumfords' brought. And 3.- The most fatalistic, they are breaking up soon. Hope not.

Song: Walk You Home
Album: Wicked Man's Rest
Year: 2007

"I see you nearly every day, I see you but you don't see me, wish I had something clever to say and, wish I had something better I could be..."

"I'm the boy who watches the phone, I'm the boy who eats lunch on his own, I'm the boy with the monotone, I'm the boy, still lives at home..."

*A COMMENT: So, I've heard a song by 'Passenger', 'Let her go'. And I was like 'could it be the same 'Passenger' I've got a song from?' It has the same kind of "nasal" voice or something. And then trustworthy 'Wikipedia' provided the answer. Yes it was, but here's the catch. Back when I heard this at "The 61" it used to be a band, but now is just the vocalist, but he kept the name.
