Aushua - Hiding Place

Artist: Aushua
Song: Hiding Place
Album: Limbo
Year: 2009

"My face was long when I heard a whisper in her song, and it pulled me by the wrists like the words of a hypnotist, make the silence break yeah, when they snap, you wake..."

*A COMMENT:
"Chuck's" week is still on! Hell yes! I'm not giving a big comment, so I'll just give you the link to the SCENE. Here, Chuck is kidnapped by some creepy dude, and by creepy I mean he really gives me the chills, the kind of guy you want to punch in the face and run.

Again, here are the instructions, just in case you had not noticed them in the previous posts. I'm glad to say that it has moved a bit faster, I hope we reach the amount of signatures "needed" and that they are of some use.

  1. First go to this webpage (http://glorbi.com/bringbackchuck/index) and sign the petition, we need to hit a million signatures. It going pretty slow if you ask me, but hey! At least we can try and show NBC they screwed up by cancelling 'CHUCK'
  2. Go to CBS's facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/CBS) and write in their wall to 'PICK UP CHUCK'. Their wall it is already covered with 'pick up Chuck' messages, so let's keep up the good work, maybe they realize it is a worth-picking show.

Foreign Born - Into Your Dream

Artist: Foreign Born
Song: Into Your Dream
Album: On the Wing Now
Year: 2007

I'll post the lyrics a bit latter...

*A COMMENT: As stated yesterday this week would be devoted to music heard on 'CHUCK', so here is a song heard on the very first episode (the pilot) of this awesome show. Another thing, I'm also going to be posting (on all week's posts) the instructions to follow in an effort to Bring Back Chuck. Here is the SCENE.

  1. First go to this webpage (http://glorbi.com/bringbackchuck/index) and sign the petition, we need to hit a million signatures. It going pretty slow if you ask me, but hey! At least we can try and show NBC they screwed up by cancelling 'CHUCK'

Frightened Rabbit - The Twist

Artist: Frightened Rabbit
Song: The Twist
Album: Midnight Organ Fight
Year: 2008

"Let's pretend I'm attractive and then you won't mind, you can twist for a while, it's the night, I can be who you like and I'll quietly leave before it gets light..."

"So twist and whisper the wrong name, I don't care nor do my ears, twist yourself around me, I need company, I need human heat, I need human heat..."

*A COMMENT: So, I'm still in 'Post-Chuck ending' depression, so I've decided this week should be dedicated to 'CHUCK' and music I have discovered and heard through that awesome show, some I have posted already, but I think I still got plenty material. So let's start with 'Frightened Rabbit' and their song 'The Twist', used when Casey was ordered to get rid of Chuck and stuff happens. Here's the SCENE.

By the way, I still hope something can be done to save 'CHUCK'. Right now there are 2 paths I know:
Their wall it is already covered with 'pick up Chuck' messages, so let's keep the good work, maybe they realize it is a worth-picking show.

The Head and The Heart - Rivers and Roads

Artist: The Head and The Heart
Song: Rivers and Roads
Album: The Head and The Heart
Year: 2010

"A year from now we'll all be gone, all our friends will move away
and they're going to better places, but our friends will be gone away..."

"Nothing is as it has been and I miss your face like hell and I guess it's just as well, but i miss your face like hell..."

"Been talking bout the way things change and my family lives in a different state and if you don't know what to make of this then we will not relate, so if you don't know what to make of this then we will not relate..."

"Rivers and roads, rivers and roads, rivers 'til I reach you..."

*A COMMENT: This should be a special post, what has to be my favorite TV show has ended, you should know by now what show I'm talking about, but if you are new to this, let me say it again 'CHUCK', 'CHUCK', 'CHUCK' and 3 times 'CHUCK'. And what better way to honor this post than with a song I discovered through the show, what better way to homage the show than with song that closed up the show, the song used in the last scene of it. What a good song, perfect to describe the sense of changing, the sense of moving on and besides it serves well to get you in the nostalgic mood, seriously, I can recall specific moments of me watching this show, I can recall the place, the day, me trying to know what songs they were playing, good times indeed... Also this song, in a way, describes life, describes my situation at this point of life, when it comes to deal with everyone going their own way, following their path in life, and one should do that too...

But anyway, let's not miss the point here... To 'CHUCK' I owe entertainment, good memories, but most of all good music, hell yeah! Through 'CHUCK' I got to know a lot of bands I had no idea they existed, I got to buy CD's of those bands, listening to those CD's makes me happy, discovering new music makes me happy, being 'nerdy' makes me happy, so in conclusion watching 'CHUCK' made me happy, very I should say. So I guess I must issue a big THANK YOU! to everyone who made 'CHUCK' possible. I would hope to find a substitute for 'CHUCK', but that is a very very difficult task...

I WANT MORE CHUCK, SO PLEASE SIGN THIS:

HAVE A NICE WEEKEND, PEOPLE!

The Maccabees - Pelican

Artist: The Maccabees
Song: Pelican
Album: Given to the Wild
Year: 2012

"So soon we're too old to carry, we knew we only had a little while..."

"To have it all and still want more, one things for sure we're all getting older, so we take a lover waiting in the corner, before you know it, pushing up the daisies..."

"And we go back to where we came from like those before and those to come and know it's the ever and the more and again and again and again..."

*A COMMENT:
I want this CD, I want it, I want it, I want it! This song is awesome, both musically and lyrically. Well, the music speaks for itself and the lyrics are about the simple, and yet complex, lyfe cycle, just like that, some saw us coming, we'll see them going, we'll see some coming, and they'll will see us going... HAVE A NICE FRIDAY...

By the way, today is 'Chuck's' final season finale, if I were to draw an analogy with this song :(

Arctic Monkeys - Teddy Picker

Artist: Arctic Monkeys
Song: Teddy Picker
Album: Favourite Worst Nightmare
Year: 2007

"Despair to the point where they provoke, you to tell the fucking punchline before you have told the joke, sorry sunshine it doesn't exist, it wasn't in the top 100 list..."

"And it's the thousandth time and it's even bolder, don't be surprised when you get bent over, he told ya, that you were gagging for it..."

*A QUICKIE:
Want to make my day, and probably my week? Give me a CD as a present. A friend gave me this 2 days ago, and hell yeah, it brought a smile to my face (like the one I get when I'm at a record store) as it was totally unexpected. Now you know what to give me, but of course, you need to know my taste in music. Oh yeah, by the way, THANK YOU!

Glasvegas - Geraldine

Artist: Glasvegas
Song: Geraldine
Album: Glasvegas
Year: 2008

"When your feet decide to walk you on the wayward side, up upon the stairs and down the downward slide, I will, I will turn your tide, do all that I can to heal you inside, I'll be the angel on your shoulder, my name is Geraldine, I'm your social worker..."

*A COMMENT: I discovered this band, through this song, in a TV ad, I don't quite remember what the advertised product was, I don't recall if it was a 'Zune' ad or if it was something about a trading music service, maybe the ad contained a 'Zune' and advertised something else, but like I said, I don't quite remember and I don't quite care either, all I know is I liked it and for that, I'm thankful.

Friendly Fires - Pala

Song: Running Away
Album: Pala

"See the flash in the dark, breathe the rest of your sigh, hold the rush of a life, keep me coming, coming back for more..."

"You feel the lust of a lion, the one who runs at you cold, when you start with a look that's endless, pits me up against the wall..."

"And we couldn't care if we die here, die here and we couldn't care, if they flick the switch and took the rest of this..."

*A COMMENT: Sooooo, it is MONDAY again, the good thing, if we wanted to look on the bright side, we are closer to the weekend ¬¬. Well, anyway, there are songs for dancing, there are songs for running, there are songs to relax and I think this song is so very freaking sexy, slow-tempo sexy, kiss-her-slowly sexy, it creates an atmosphere and definitely sets the mood for 'le sexy time'. Pffff. Ahem... Ok, before it starts to sound like some cheap erotic narration, I might as well say: HAVE A NICE START TO THE WEEK!

Just Jack - Mourning Morning

Artist: Just Jack
Song: Mourning Morning
Album: Overtones
Year: 2007

"Morning lights don't scratch my eyes, just let me wash up on the shore, I used to have the strangest dreams but they don't come here anymore, my duvet's laid out like an atlas with stains to mark the borderlines, indentations in my pillow I hope won't fade with time..."

*A COMMENT:
Should I post a comment? I don't know, I'm not really in the mood and I don't have something that may interest you, and besides, that would be so unconsiderate on my part, to make you waste your precious time reading some nonsense, but not just your time, mine too, as it would take me at least 2 or 3 minutes to write something. And you know what they say, time is money, and I don't want you to lose your money, nor would I want you to start blaming me for that, as that would be awkward as nobody likes to charge or be charged. So having said that, I've decided not to post a comment.

Band of Horses - For Annabelle

Artist: Band of Horses
Song: For Annabelle
Album: Infinite Arms
Year: 2010

"The old folks wake up for the day, seeing the monsters have lingered from the past, and a great bird is flying away from our family tree, something wrong with me..."

"I've got a secret or two hiding somewhere but it won't take long, no it won't take long..."

*A QUICK NO COMMENT: This song was written for the vocalist's daughter, simply as that...

The Von Bondies - C'mon C'mon

Artist: The Von Bondies
Song: C'mon C'mon
Album: Pawn Shoppe Heart
Year: 2004

"On another day c'mon c'mon, with these ropes tied tight can we do no wrong, now we grieve 'cause now it's gone, things were good when we were young..."

"And on this day these deepened wounds don't heal so fast, can't hear me croon of a million lies that speak no truths, of a time gone by that now is through..."

*A QUICK COMMENT:
This CD makes me think of Tarantino. First of all, because of the title, a pawnshop, which reminds me of 'Pulp Fiction', when Marsellus Wallace and Butch enter the premises and then Zed, the gimp and the owner, well, you know the story. And finally, the content in the CD might be music that Tarantino would use in his films, but that is just me guessing.

Elbow - Lippy Kids

Artist: Elbow
Song: Lippy Kids
Album: Build a Rocket Boys!
Year: 2011

"Do they know those days are golden? Build a rocket, boys! Build a rocket, boys!

"Nobody knew me at home anymore, build a rocket, boys! Build a rocket, boys!"

*A COMMENT: I think this song is about looking back and remembering your days as a teenager... And now that you are a bit or much older, you wonder if the teens know those days are unrepeatable, you wonder if they acknowledge that fact, hence the 'build a rocket' phrase, encouraging them to do whatever they want while they are able to. To be fair I think the vast majority of people, when a teenager, do not recognize it, cannot recognize it, because there is this hint where life only makes sense backwards. Could you imagine if we knew back then what we know now? Maybe we would do things differently or maybe we would gladly make the same mistakes again... HAVE AN EXCELLENT START TO THE WEEK!

Depeche Mode - Dream On

Artist: Depeche Mode
Song: Dream On
Album: Exciter
Year: 2001

"Paying debt to karma, you party for a living, what you take won't kill you but careful what you're giving..."

"Blame it on your karmic curse, oh shame upon the universe, it knows its lines, it's well rehearsed..."

*A COMMENT: Sometimes, and sometimes only, I wonder what is the speed of karma, how long does it take for it to affect us? Is it selective? In my experience, I can tell that it has had an immediate effect on me as on two different times I did exactly the same thing (which I rather not mention) and the very next day something happened to me. The first outcome was falling off a motorcycle and ending up in the hospital and the second outcome was colliding in a parking lot at 20 KPH (I was the co-pilot). And here lies my question, do the 'speed' and degree of "punishment" depend on the bad action you make? I don't know, it seems that there are people who have done pretty wicked shit and they seem to be doing pretty well... But I guess I'll just mind my own business...

By the way, this takes to great memories of my early adolescence...

Jack Johnson - No Good With Faces

Artist: Jack Johnson
Song: No Good With Faces
Album: To the Sea
Year: 2010

"No good with faces and I'm bad with names, gave me directions but it's all the same, oh no, I'm lost, I'm too tired to try..."

"Road signs were stolen, left here holding this flame, who stole my patience? Who stole my way? Oh no, I'm lost, I'm too tired to try..."

*SOME WORDS: Apathy? Yes, a bit. I feel that way... Too tired to even try...

And remember... If you liked it, buy it...

*A QUICKIE: The weather is not helping, my hands are freezing and some may ask why? Because fuck you! That's why! xD HAVE A NICE FRIDAY!

Thursday, January 12, 2012

Civil Twilight - Soldier

Artist: Civil Twilight
Song: Soldier
Album: Civil Twilight
Year: 2009

"I take aim from the kitchen window, I take aim from up and down below, I take aim from the tree in your backyard, I fall asleep but I'm always on guard..."

"I don't stop till the end of the show, I don't stop till my country says so, I don't know why I raise this hell, I'm just a soldier fighting for someone else..."

*A COMMENT: At first I didn't know what to make of this song, I wasn't sure if it was written from a naive/uninformed, even dumb 'do what you're told' point of view, or if was from a patriotic/righteous one. But I guess it is a mix, on one hand he is not glad he's there, he has a family, a life, but on the other he is already there, so he might as well do it right even though he does not know who he is fighting for, or why he is even there in the first place, and here I can't help thinking that the only one he is fighting for is for himself, as in that moment all the reasons are superfluous, now it is all about surviving...

*A QUICKIE:
I remember I heard this song on 'The O.C.', and I immediately liked it, I remember looking like crazy for it, I did found who sang it, but a copy of it was nowhere to be found. The only thing I did find was an mp3 of it, but it was recorded straight from the episode, you could even here the characters talking... but as time passed it was finally avaible...

*A COMMENT:
Although this song is about A.D.D. and it has nothing to do with me, I do have to concentrate, at least to pull off my weekly activities, I hope I can deal with some facts and issues and that they don't keep me out of focus and prevent me from giving my 100%.

Youth Group - Forever Young

Artist: Youth Group
Song: Forever Young
Album: Casino Twilight Dogs
Year: 2006

"Let's start in style, let's dance for a while, heaven can wait we're only watching the skies, hoping for the best, but expecting the worst, are you gonna drop the bomb or not?"

"Let us stay young or let us live forever, we don't have t
he power, but we never say never, sitting in the sandpit, life is a short trip, the music's for the sad man..."

*A COMMENT: So 2012 uh? I still feel like the 90's were yesterday and I'm afraid I'll think that for a long long time. I won't say
growing up sucks (although I tend to think that), because with aging comes experience, but then again things are not like they use to be: people's paths fork (and they also meet), things used to be simpler, but to be fair we complicate them even more, the body, mind and spirit reflect the ailing that comes with aging, and many things more...

Yesterday I watch something on TV about 'Okinawa's centenarians', people who despite being more than 100 years old, are still capable to do daily and normal stuff. Could you imagine if we could stay forever young? Would we make the most of it? Would we get tired of it? The world would be even more overpopulated than it is now and a lot of not-convenient consequences would arise with today's mindset. I guess life's nature is wise...

Anyway, I wanted to share this realistic comic strip I saw a year ago but that will be valid every single year and of course, wish you the HEALTHIEST POSSIBLE YEAR!
