Civil Twilight - Soldier

Artist: Civil Twilight
Song: Soldier
Album: Civil Twilight
Year: 2009

"I take aim from the kitchen window, I take aim from up and down below, I take aim from the tree in your backyard, I fall asleep but I'm always on guard..."

"I don't stop till the end of the show, I don't stop till my country says so, I don't know why I raise this hell, I'm just a soldier fighting for someone else..."

*A COMMENT: At first I didn't know what to make of this song, I wasn't sure if it was written from a naive/uninformed, even dumb 'do what you're told' point of view, or if was from a patriotic/righteous one. But I guess it is a mix, on one hand he is not glad he's there, he has a family, a life, but on the other he is already there, so he might as well do it right even though he does not know who he is fighting for, or why he is even there in the first place, and here I can't help thinking that the only one he is fighting for is for himself, as in that moment all the reasons are superfluous, now it is all about surviving...
