The Walkmen - The Rat

Artist: The Walkmen
Song: The Rat
Album: Bows + Arrows
Year: 2003

"You've got a nerve to be asking a favor, you've got a nerve to be calling my number..."

"When I used to go out, I would know everyone that I saw, now I go out alone if I go out at all..."

*A COMMENT: For a while now, I've been suspecting there was a rat among us, and by this I mean in one of my closest circles. Today I'm even more certain and I even think I know who the rat is, not sure though, but it makes more sense. The consequences of the rat's actions can go to the sewer (the rat's home), I don't even care about them, the thing here is that more questions arise, like what is the rat's purpose? What is the rat aiming for? For all I know the rat's hands are as dirty as the next one...

For the sake of the circle I'm going to be cautious and put the matter on standby with the rat, but heck, I'm taking action, I'm going to dig a bit, and the rat is going to exposed, and I don't care if some people are very fond of the rat and I fall from their grace, at least that will bring them some perspective of who they are dealing with... What is the point of belonging to a circle if you are not certain who is who, if you are not certain that what comes out of your mouth is going to be held against you, for that I would rather keep my distance from that circle.

Oh by the way, thanks rat, you helped me kill the routine...
