Phosphorescent - Song for Zula

Artist: Phosphorescent
Song: Song For Zula
Album: Muchacho
Year: 2013

"Some say love is a burning thing that it makes a fiery ring, oh but I know love as a fading thing, just as fickle as a feather in a stream... See, honey, I saw love, you see it came to me, it puts its face up to my face so I could see, yeah then I saw love disfigure me into something I am not recognizing..."

"You will not see me fall, nor see me struggle to stand to be acknowledged by some touch from his gnarled hands, you see the cage, it called. I said, come on in, I will not open myself this way again..."

*HI THERE: This was the song I was listening YESTERDAY, when the 'Goddess of Randomness' struck. And speaking of her, she was involved with this song as well, see, I was in this restaurant and I really, REALLY had to go to the restroom... And there I was focused on the task, there was background music and this began to play and I said to myself 'Holy crap', (because of the song, not for literal reasons, of course) and thank your favorite deity for 'Shazam'.

About a possible meaning, it seems to be narrated from the perspective of an animal in captivity, like in a zoo or a circus, and the author comparing himself with one. And it talks about this love, a perhaps gone to hell love, it being the cage, trapping you, exposing you, making you the victim, not the predator. It disfigured him emotionally and there is this desire of being free of this cage (love).

And remember... If you liked it, buy it...
