Nine Inch Nails - Everyday Is Exactly the Same

Artist: Nine Inch Nails
Song: Everyday Is Exactly the Same
Album: With Teeth
Year: 2005

"I believe I can see the future 'cause I repeat the same routine, I think I used to have a purpose but then again that might have been a dream..."

*A BRIEF COMMENT AND A THREE WORDS PHRASE: I think the next phrase will stress perfectly what I'm feeling right now, as for the last few days I've been the most bored (and a bit miserable) guy in the world and all I have to say is FUCK THE ROUTINE!

311 - Amber

Artist: 311
Song: Amber
Album: From Chaos
Year: 2001

"Whoa, amber is the color of your energy... Whoa, shades of gold displayed naturally, you ought to know what brings me here, you glide through my head blind to fear and I know why..."

*A QUICKIE: This was a really boring day and yet another song about a girl, how is it related? I don't quite know perhaps because this song has this special vibe, the one you can sit and watch the afternoon go by while listening to this song... Anyway, I've come to the conclusion that almost on every occasion it all comes down to a girl...

Brandon Flowers - Swallow It

Artist: Brandon Flowers
Song: Swallow It
Album: Flamingo
Year: 2010

"Take your medicine and crawl before you walk, think it through before you open your mouth to talk, be an advocate of joy, find your little heart's desire and follow it..."

"Don't be afraid, this is your year, it's gonna be alright, you're a performer, just take your time, but not too much time..."

*A REFLECTION: I think the meaning of this song is quite simple, if you want to reach or succeed at something, you have to go step by step, be patient but at the same time have the guts to seize an opportunity.

Speaking of patience, I think is a virtue that just few people possess, especially these days, where the majority seeks quick results, everything must be immediate, always thinking on the short run or otherwise is a failure, but this "vision" leads people to do things without any value, not for them or for anyone else, as they are just seeking the easy way of doing things, and often the easy way is not the right or the lasting one. If you want something to happen and to last you have to do it with love, you have to be righteous, prudent and patient, as long as you know that what you are doing is taking you somewhere... Finally let's not confuse some terms as there is a big difference between being patient and being a coward or even worse, lazy...

Miike Snow - Black & Blue/Song for No One

Artist: Miike Snow
Song: Black & Blue
Album: Miike Snow
Year: 2009

"I won't waste your time with my revelation... Hello my friend, I see you're back again, hello mystery, don't bother to explain.
How bout maybe, its all been in my head...
Hey world I'm tired of this black & blue, black & blue..."

*A COMMENT/OPINION: I don't know who to blame anymore, my indecision or my intention to share really awesome songs, I guess this time (as usual) it all comes down to indecision because if it was my intention, perhaps I would post most of the songs from this album because it's so good, but that would be too easy for you and it would take me longer... I guess that if you really liked the song posted, somehow that's your "homework", looking for some other songs from the same artist... On second thoughts, I wouldn't call it "homework" per se, because in my opinion, you looking for more songs from the same artist depends basically on two things, the first one
would be
, as I've already said, whether you liked the song or not. The second and most important one is how passionate you are about music, the desire you have to discover new songs and new artists... Anyway, those were my two cents... Enjoy and
have a good start to the week!!

P.S. Thanks Chuck...

Artist: Miike Snow
Song: Song for No One
Album: Miike Snow
Year: 2009

"Tell everyone you know, open up the door... When your love has gone, you carry on, this is her song, this the song for no one..."

Led Zeppelin - The Rain Song

Artist: Led Zeppelin
Song: The Rain Song
Album: Houses of the Holy
Year: 1975

"It is the summer of my smiles, flee from me keepers of the gloom. Speak to me only with your eyes, it is to you I give this tune. Ain't so hard to recognize these things are clear to all through time to time..."

*SOME FACTS:
  1. I kinda "stole" this CD from my dad. He had this kept in a drawer and one day I was digging the stuff he kept in that cabinet, which was located in the dining room... Anyway, when I saw this I had probably only heard one or two Led Zeppelin songs and I said "oh cool" but to be honest I didn't pay much attention to it at the moment, I was still an ignorant brat, but one day I asked my dad if I could borrow it, so I grabbed the CD and another day I put it on the car stereo while I was waiting for my mom to get off work and I was blown away by it so I decided that the CD was mine from that moment on.
  2. This song is somehow the result of a George Harrison's comment, when he told John Bonham that the "problem" with Led Zeppelin is that the did not do any ballads.

Rad Omen - Rad Anthem

Artist: Rad Omen
Song: Rad Anthem
Album: Search Party and Destroy
Year: 2010

"In this city, we know how to get down, in this city, we know how to do it right, rocking this party, don’t stop 'til the break of dawn, in this city, we know how to do it right..."

*TWO THINGS, WELL ACTUALLY THREE:
  1. I heard this on 'Chuck'.
  2. Have a crazy-ass weekend.
  3. The Colonel Sanders in the video reminds me of a professor I had in college...

Jack Johnson - Breakdown

Artist: Jack Johnson
Song: Breakdown
Album: In Between Dreams
Year: 2005

“This engine screams out loud, centipede gonna crawl westbound, so I don't even make a soundcause it's gonna sting me when I leave this town. And all the people in the street that I'll never get to meet if these tracks don't bend somehow. And I got no time that I got to get to where I don't need to be, so I, I need this old train to breakdown, oh please just let me please breakdown…”

*A SIMPLE COMMENT?: Have you ever felt that life is moving too fast? And that you are trying to keep up with it because you have some sort of tie? Life can be shitty sometimes, and as I said, there are certain ties that oblige you to do certain things when you wish you were doing something else instead... Well that’s life, I guess all we have left is to hold on, buckle up and try to make the ride as enjoyable as possible although sometimes it is too difficult to do so… (Insert a big sigh here…)

Delays - Long Time Coming/You and Me

Artist: Delays
Song: Long Time Coming
Album: Faded Seaside Glamour
Year: 2004

“Tore it up and walked away, why'd you wanna go do that for? Threw your Lego in the lake, why'd you wanna go do that for?”

“How can you grow old you were my triumph?”

*A REMARK AND QUOTE: You have got to thank my indecision today because now you’ll get to listen two songs.

The first one is about, and I’m quoting the author of the song here, “watching people you love losing their innocence and naivety that you shared when you were younger and fallen into the kind of adulthood you swore you never would, and wishing you could've done something about it. It's a loss of innocence and also of spontaneity and people becoming really guarded and jaded. Friends stuck in jobs you know they don't wanna do, living in houses they don't wanna live in…”

Artist: Delays
Song: You and Me
Album: You See Colours
Year: 2006

“To the bitter end I have fought alone, now this cavalry is coming home…”

“And we can lay low tonight and we can set the flag alight, we're clawing back the time when youth was on our side, you and me could've been fine... you and me were gonna be fine…”

*ANOTHER REMARK, NO QUOTE: I’m not quite sure what this is about… the most likely thing is that it is about this couple that like each other and at some point of the relationship (if there ever was one) they got apart from each other for a long period of time and now time has passed and somehow they are reunited again, I guess that if something's meant to be will occur no matter what...

Broken Bells - Vaporize

Artist: Broken Bells
Song: Vaporize
Album: Broken Bells
Year: 2010

“What amounts to a dream anymore? A crude device; a veil on our eyes. A simple plan we'd be different from the rest and never resign to a typical life…”

“Doubtless, we've been through this so if you want to follow me you should know I was lost then and I am lost now and I doubt I'll ever know which way to go…”

*A STATEMENT: Whoa with these lyrics, whoa! To me is about having dreams and being confused about what we should do with our lives, either follow them, although they may seem unrealistic, or fall into a regular and typical life. This song could be seen through the perspective of someone who waited around so long and didn't even try to follow those dreams, now time has passed him by, so when he realizes that, apparently it is too late for him to fulfill them now. The last verse is pure gold; it summarizes the uncertainty when it comes to deciding, especially a life decision, I think somehow it refers to all the different aspects that play such an important role in the decision-making process, all the little/major factors that are swirling in our head, some are so big that scare and paralyze us and keep us from taking action towards the completion of that dream.

I guess the “comforting” (yeah, right! ¬¬) thing to be said here is that if you try and you fail, you can always go back and live the typical and regular life you were trying to avoid in the first place, but at least you won’t get to say you didn't give it a shot. But then again, the implications are so big… well I guess I shouldn’t take too much time figuring myself out…

The Walkmen - Juveniles

Artist: The Walkmen
Song: Juveniles
Album: Lisbon
Year: 2010

"I am a good man by any count and I see better things to come. Could she be right? When she repeats I am the lucky one... You're one of us or one of them..."

*A QUICKIE: I've discovered this band by watching 'Letterman', it seems that he has a quite alternative/indie taste... He sure likes music and I'm sure drums too, he even has his own record label... Anyway here is the song I watched that night, I liked it a lot, especially the 'you're one of us or one of them' bit...

Rilo Kiley - Dreamworld

Artist: Rilo Kiley
Song: Dreamworld
Album: Under the Blacklight
Year: 2007

"See, I'm a man with a plan to use my hands, I'm touching yours, you're the girl who wanted more, likely the story has faded from love to lie, the clover under your feet is shooting stars in the night, the people under your feet are shooting stars in the night, the people, all that you meet, they're living in a dreamworld..."

*A RANDOM COMMENT: Yay!!! Randomness strikes again!!! See, I was at NY, I was so tired of walking like a mad man and the guys I was with decided it was a good idea to enter The Gap store at 5th avenue, so I went with them, I was exhausted so I sat for a moment, and suddenly this song started and I was blown away by the guitar fills, so I listened to some of the lyrics and that night at the hotel I googled the excerpt of lyrics I had managed to grasp, and the next day I got the CD... My surprise was that the album was not what I had expected, this song is so different from the rest of the songs on the album, I guess I got carried away with this song, so in a way, I was expecting something similar. The first thing I noticed was that the lead singer was a girl and that the only song sung by the guy was this one, not a bad thing though, but like I mentioned I wasn't expecting that and maybe that was the reason it took some time for the album to grow on me, not that it is a bad album, but again from this song, I was expecting something that followed a similar line... I think I'm digressing big time here so I better stop now.

Anyway, enjoy the song and have a good start to the week!!

Silverchair - Straight Lines

Artist: Silverchair
Song: Straight Lines
Album: Young Modern
Year: 2007

"Sparks ignite and trade them for thought about no one and nothing in particular.
Washed the sickened socket and drove, r
esent nothing, t
here's good will inside of me.."

"I don't need no time to say there's no changing yesterday, if we keep talking and I keep walking in straight lines..."

*A THOUGHT: Seriously I could put the whole lyrics on the above quotes because they mean a lot to me, this song is like an anthem to me that reminds me that in spite of everything I'm still here and as long as I keep on trying everything will be fine, I can relate to this song a lot because I think is about being alone and going through some serious issues in your life but still, somehow you're able to cope, able to manage and try to overcome those situations, able to try to make it through all the tough tests you are put to.

It is also about being at ease with yourself, with who you are, with other people, with your surroundings, with all the difficult situations you have been into, about acknowledging that you're not able to change the past and accepting that fact, being OK with it, taking all that you have learned from the hard times and from the mistakes that have been made along the way, and using that to have the will to move on, to start anew, to forgive yourself and others, to have a new perspective of life, hence "walking in a straight line", in a way, living one day at a time, in other words
being happy with your place in this life/world and
honestly I cannot wait for that day to come...

P.S. I really like running to this song...

Blur - Birthday

Artist: Blur
Song: Birthday
Album: Leisure
Year: 1991

"It's my birthday, no one here day, very strange day, I think of you day, go outside day, sit in park day, watch the sky day... What a pathetic day, I don't like this day, it makes me feel too small, I don't like these days, they make me feel so small..."

*A SIMPLE ONE: I don't agree with the last few lines, I do like my birthdays, but yes, it is a quite strange day, I never know what to do on my birthdays, I'm not the kind of 'yay me! celebrate me' person. It is a day like any other day, except you have the notion that you were born that day, and sure, it feels nice when you are congratulated, but if you don't know it is my birthday I'm not going to tell you it is just so you congratulate me... Isn't that what I'm doing right now? It may seem like that, but trust me, it is not what I'm doing, it is just a point of view of how I see my birthday, and I wasn't going to comment about birthdays on another day that was not mine, why would I?

Kele - Tenderoni

Artist: Kele
Song: Tenderoni
Album: The Boxer
Year: 2010

"Not your fault, not your problem, not one to apologize. If you want tough, I'll give you tough..."

*A NOTIFICATION: Juts in case you didn't know Kele Okereke, the singer and guitarist of 'Bloc Party', released a solo album last year. Unlike the sound of 'Bloc Party' (or at least their initial sound, because the 'Intimacy' album has glimpses of this), in this album Kele allows himself to go more into the electronic direction. It is an enjoyable CD (though I prefer Bloc Party), with some motivational lyrics if I'm to call them some way and I have to say that I especially liked the way Kele described the name of the album: "as a boxer, you have to rely on nobody else but yourself to achieve what it is you want to achieve. Even though you take hits, you have to keep focus on your priorities and keep going..."

Thirteen Senses - Spirals

Artist: Thirteen Senses
Song: Spirals
Album: Contact
Year: 2007

"If I could set you free and give you what you need, then all my energy is lost. Well I begin to ring and notice everything, then all my little plans have been lost..."

*A QUICK COMMENT: I think this band is so underrated, as well as this album, every track on it is so worth it. I have very specific memories of me listening to this album, mainly because of what I was going through at that point of my life... but that's another story. Anyway... Great album and great song from a band that deserves more recognition... I leave you with the studio version and a live version that has a simple, yet so awesome, light spectacle...

Two Door Cinema Club - What You Know

Artist: Two Door Cinema Club
Song: What You Know
Album: Tourist History
Year: 2010

"In a few weeks I will get time to realise it's right before my eyes and I can take it if it's what I want to do..."

"I can tell just what you want, you don't want to be alone, you don't want to be alone. And I can't say it's what you know but you've known it the whole time, yeah, you've known it the whole time..."

*A LITTLE STORY: Last year when I found out that my cousin was going to Las Vegas, the first thing I did was going to the Best Buy page and look if they had this CD in any Las Vegas store and they did... So I wrote an e-mail to my cousin to see if she could buy this and other CD for me while she was there, in that e-mail I put a headline that said 'Artist' and 'Album' so it would be easier for her to know that, which was the artist and which was the name of the album. And so, she went to Las Vegas and I don't know, 2 days later she called me while I was driving on the freeway and I happened to be with a friend, so I asked her to answer the phone and put it on speakers, it was my cousin and she sounded a bit confused, she told me that she had asked the guy at the store if they had the 'Artist Album' CD and that he had said no, that they didn't have any record whatsoever of that artist, that it hadn't even come up on the computer... In that moment I told her that that was just the headline not an actual name of a band, me and my friend could not resist and started laughing so very hard our stomachs began to hurt so bad, but could you imagine me driving and laughing the way I did on a freeway full of cars? We were still on the phone, the next thing was my cousin having a little rant and told me that I made her look like an idiot and I (still laughing so hard) managed to say that it was her fault, and she hung up. We were still laughing and I swear I hadn't had a laugh like that in a long time and to this day I haven't had one of those again. Five minutes later she called back, we were still recovering from that laugh, she told me that she already had bought the CD and now, calmer than before, she told me again that she had felt so dumb, I still mockingly recreated the scene of her with the Best Buy guy and apparently she had her phone on speakers too and her sister heard and I remember hearing her laughing and telling her that she was a moron and we started laughing again. Later we found out that she read the e-mail from her Blackberry and somehow it became all distorted, without any format, so the 'Artist' 'Album' headline appeared as it was just another line so she thought it was a band and so did the Best Buy. DUH!!!

About the album... I have got to say, at least for me, is an extraordinary album, so fresh, so lively, those guitar riffs are so catchy, I don't know, I loved it! If I was to "quibble" something about this album is that it seems to last so little time, you could imagine, time flies when you are having fun, so this album ends too soon.

Datarock - Amarillion

Artist: Datarock
Song: Amarillion
Album: Red
Year: 2009

"I wanna hold you in my arms. I wanna squeeze you good and tight. I wanna fly you to the moon. I want to dance with you all night. Now don't you worry about me, new romantic, my good intention, you'll see, is authentic..."

*A MENTION: Another band and song I heard through 'Chuck'! Yay! As for the meaning of the song I think it is pretty obvious so I won't even try to explain it, the only thing you have to do is listen to the lyrics.

Its upbeat vibe makes it an excellent choice for a week starter, so enjoy it and have a nice week!!
