Artist: The National
Song: Lucky You
Album: Sad Songs for Dirty Lovers
Year: 2003
“You coulda made a safer bet, but what you break is what you get. You wake up in the bed you make I think you made a big mistake…”
“You clean yourself to meet the man who isn't me; you're putting on a shirt, a shirt I'll never see. The letter's in your coat but no one's in your head, cause you're too smart to remember, you're too smart, lucky you.”
*AN OBSERVATION: So today I did not know which song to choose, I was making up my mind between 2 song from the same band and after a lot of thinking I still could not decide so as a special treat, today’s post will be TWO SONGS! Yipi Kai Yay!!
The National knows how to make sad songs, they can describe all these variety of shitty feelings very accurately. Whether it be lyrically or musically, these guys can truly set a mood.
As for the first song, I think the meaning is obvious; it is about a guy who can’t get over this girl, who had the ability to move on or she really does not give a crap about the issue, so to the guy she’s sarcastically lucky, as he wishes he could stop caring about her…

Song: Slow Show
Album: Boxer
Year: 2007
“Looking for somewhere to stand and stay, I leaned on the wall and the wall leaned away. Can I get a minute of not being nervous and not thinking of my dick? My leg is sparkles, my leg is pins, I better get my shit together, better gather my shit in. You could drive a car through my head in five minutes from one side of it to the other...”
*ANOTHER OBSERVATION: As for this second song, I think is about the awkwardness and insecurity one can feel when trying to be liked and/or accepted by the one you are interested in and that can lead to overdo, fake, lie and similar stuff just to keep her attention so she doesn’t discover you are not what you made her think you are, nonetheless he's not doing what he does with bad intentions, on the contrary...
And remember... If you liked it, buy it...
