Song: The Salt Wound Routine
Album: The Invitation
Year: 2004
"Could prison cells be in my brain for they're safe inside the cover of a dirty face, and everybody finds a college graduate with joy, while I'm happy just sipping tonic water with lemon and lime..."
"You sit at home up late at night when it's beginning to arrive and honestly I don't see the need for any routines, I'm all out of sync, I cover my cuts and hope they are fixed before I get hurt again..."
"And all this ground beneath my feet has decided not to crumble into the sea, I walked in a house, it smelt of paint and the ceiling it has no trouble with me..."
*A COMMENT: Here's an extremely beautiful song from one of my favorite bands, they definitely deserve more attention, more exposure... Their "sin"? Appearing after Coldplay and Keane, but their talent is never questioned. The song I think it is about the difficulty, and sometimes the impossibility, of breaking the routine, how you see your life becoming tedious and eventually it ends up wearing you off... I also think it has to do with being at ease with yourself, breaking free of the social canons, as sometimes it seems that something was written and was meant to be followed that way, the fact is nothing is and those social pressures also end up wearing us off to some degree... Anyway, enjoy this masterpiece, it is perfect for sitting back and just relax!
