Everyday there is a song that goes with us wherever we go, or a song that would fit perfectly in any given situation of our life, or a song that you just haven't heard yet, but you are eager to discover...
Whatever the case may be, this will be a space dedicated to show anyone who runs into this blog, the song that was stuck in my head any given day, the song I would listen to if..., or just to give a simple recommendation of what I think is a worth-listening song...
Artist: The 1975 Song: Me Album: Music for Cars EP Year: 2013
"I gave you something you can never give back, don't you mind... You've seen your face like a heart attack, don't you mind don't you mind...
"I was late but I arrived, I'm sorry but I'd rather be getting high than watching my family die... Exaggerate and you and I..."
"Oh I think I did something terrible to your body, don't you mind... I put your mother through hell, don't you mind... I hurt your brother as well, don't you mind don't you mind... Oh I was thinking about killing myself, don't you mind... I love you, don't you mind don't you mind..."
*A QUICK COMMENT: Yeah, yeah, yesterday there was no post, big deal, get used to it.
Anyhow, this song is kind of a consequence of buying too much music and having little time to catch up with it. I listen to all of it, but the appreciation of it is scarce, so there are time when i put my iPod on shuffle I come across with some songs that are unfamiliar, forgotten gems, indeed.
I find this song so sensual, even though the lyrics may not portrait that, but the music does, oh, it does. It might end up in my 'Hot & Sexy' playlist.
Artist: Primal Scream Song: Space Blues #2 Album: Evil Heat Year: 2002
"On the judgement day, when your name is called and the oceans rise, and the mountains fall... Will the blood of Christ sanctify your soul? Will you follow Satan and the Hell below?"
*AN APOLOGY: Yesterday wasn't a good day. So I decided not to post anything, see not that 'daily' anymore. As I was writing, not a good day, I was gloomy all day, so very pensive. I didn't even enjoy my run, I ran out of pure discipline, and that was weird and somehow alarming, because ever since I started running it has helped me to vent, in running I have found a haven to mollify my demons and that did not happened yesterday.
Today was better, dull and gray, but better, I guess. Tomorrow will be better, I hope.
Artist: The Tallest Man On Earth Song: There's No Leaving Now Album: There's No Leaving Now Year: 2012
"And when you’re painted like a warrior, though you know it’s a raining war, when the first who spoke, but wasn't really sure
was your heart..."
"Your fear of the leading light if they are with you and your heart won’t fail to see through a fearless eye and know that danger finally goes away still you’re trying, but there’s no leaving now..."
*WHEN YOU CAN'T RUN AWAY, EVEN IF IT IS THE THING YOU WANT THE MOST...
Artist: Kongos Song: Take Me Back Album: Lunatic Year: 2012
"And once again the question's asked, I answer yes! but the moment's passed, I'm guess I'm always tomorrow-bound, how many more till I'm underground?"
"Oh oh I remember now, too far below to turn around, too bright a light to let go now, take me back my friend, take me back back on home..."
*A QUICK FACT & COMMENT: This is post #900, by now you know it could have come sooner, but it is here now.
About the song, I think it talks about death, but the kind of death you experience while being alive, all the distractions, all the shallow stuff, until one day, yes, you realize what's happened and then it actually happens, you finally die. But that's just my 2 cents.
Song: The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face Album: Handbags and Gladrags Single Year: 2001
"The first time ever I saw your face I thought the sun rose in your eyes and the moon and the stars were the gifts you gave to the dark and the end of the skies..."
"And the first time ever I kissed your mouth, I felt the earth move in my hand like the trembling heart of a captive bird that was there at my command, my love..."
*A QUICK COMMENT: What a beautiful song and what a beautiful rendition of it! This and Roberta Flack's interpretation have to be my favorite ones. The lyrics are just alluring, so charming.
"Come ride with me through the veins of history, I'll show you how god Falls asleep on the job... And how can we win when fools can be kings, don't waste your time or time will waste you..."
"No one's gonna take me alive the time has come to make things right, you and I must fight for our rights, you and I must fight to survive..."
*CHRONICLES OF STUPID PEOPLE #1: Do you remember a few posts ago I talked about ranks and "breeds" (golden girls, prima donnas, bosses and pawns), well, some pawns have been compromised and are at risk of being "captured". However, they are ready to go to the last instance even if it means their "capture", a costly one, but sometimes you have to stand your ground, even if it's just to send a message.
It never ceases to amaze the lack of common sense in some people and it offends me greatly that they even think we are stupid or naive enough to believe their crap. It's the turn of the pawns, let's see who comes out on top.
Artist: Coldplay Song: Always in my Head Album: Ghost Stories
Year: 2014
"I think of you, I haven't slept, I think I do but I don't forget my body moves, goes where I will but though I try my heart stays still it never moves, just won't be led and so my mouth waters, to be fed and you're always in my head..."
*A SIGH: The pining, oh, the pining. The self-imposed and necessary process of closing cycles, ending chapters... The pining. Staying on the same path longer than needed is fooling yourself and just as hurtful. But one thing is for sure that person will always have a place in your head and heart, it will not matter who you are with, nor the time that have passed, she'll be there. And that bums me out, sort of, not because it is a bad thing, but whether you like it or not you will always have this slight sensation of what could have been, that little voice asking 'why?' But I guess it is healthier in the long run, especially when one part is not as involved as the other part is and that could lead to the lies, petty excuses, meaningless/insincere apologies and paying lip service. So, hurtful? Most likely, but it is for the best. Moving on. Unless... Oh, crap.
"I have tried so hard not to be like them, I have found they don't ever say what they mean, there is a truth, there is a light if you'd follow me there, I've been searching for directions and, I'm convinced the world doesn't know what it needs, there is a hope for the hopeless, I can promise you that..."
"Yeah, well I been accosted, the jury's been partial but I won't surrender to prove to you I won't lie..."
*A WAIL: I'm tired, I'm jaded. How can people be so stupid and close-minded? It seems they have their head up in their own asses. I swear to the deity of your choice I'm trying hard not to explode and let these people get the best of me, but it is just so damn difficult.
Now, quoting this song, where is the hope for the hopeless? Being a nice person? I'm starting to believe that it is often more regrettable being a nice one than being an asshole, at least it seems they get away with it so much easier, they are living it up, and I wouldn't know if calling them assholes if the right term, maybe they are just ignorant and dumb as can be. Leaving the knowledge aside, these people seem to be taken out of a 'rudeness house', and again, besides them being lazy and sloppy in their doings, most of them don't have a fucking clue of what manners are. I'm not saying I'm the shit at manners, but I know the basics, I arrive I say 'Hello/Good Morning', I leave I say 'Bye', if you drop something you pick it up, things like that. Those are the consequences of being raised by TV and rap music. I mean respect and common senses are dead.
They have this particular knack of ruining your day with their crappy attitude, if you don't want to come to work then don't, they arrive with this frown as if they were smelling shit. Perhaps I don't arrive there like Mr. All-Smiles, short-short-long waving at everybody, but heck, your frown is one odd and discouraging way to ruin someone's day.
If you want in, it is a requirement, let me stress it, IT IS MAN-DA-TO-RY to be lazy, you'll have the time of your life. But this rule doesn't apply to everyone, oh no, because there are ranks and "breeds", golden girls, prima donnas, bosses and pawns. The first three can do as they please, no one will bat and eye if they are being lazy, fooling around, doing things wrong, in fact they are sometimes applauded. The last breed is the people that work their ass off, but it seems that the harder they work, the better they work, it is never enough, there is always a comment, a suggestion, the more you give, the more they want. And of course, when questioned about equal treatment, their mantra: "Don't worry about the others, worry about your performance". I guess in their little heads, they can't stand to see others being good at what they do.
Artist: MS MR Song: Hurricane Album: Secondhand Rapture Year: 2013
The storm never came or it never was, didn't know getting lost in the blue it meant I wound up losing you..."
"Welcome to the inner workings of my mind, so dark and foul I can't disguise, can't disguise, nights like this I become afraid of the darkness in my heart, hurricane..."
*A DOUBTFUL THOUGHT: I don't really know what steps to take next. It is one of these situation where you end up being hurt regardless of what you do. So damned if I do and damned if I don't... I wish I could clearly speak my mind... I wish she could express hers as well.
Artist: Animal Kingdom Song: Straw Man Album: The Looking Away Year: 2012
"Cold as the light on your face, outlines start too to fade, to watch your fingers melt into the air, when minutes you have been through and next it wasn't there..."
*A QUICK ONE: A slow song. I love these ones. I'm not really sure what to write. so I'll keep it short. Will you reach? How long will it take you to? What will be the excuse? Am I to catch you this time? Who's to say. I'm curious.
Artist: Mew Song: Intermezzo 2 Album: No More Stories Are Told I'm Sorry... Year: 2009
"Gibberish"
*AWWW SHIT: Back to my old ways of late posts with fake dates... Yesterday was a busy day I completely forgot, I swear. At least that does not happen with people. I have always have 5 minutes for people I care, even if its just 1 minute just to say 'Hello'.
Anyway, that's why this is an 'Don't ever bother' kind of post, I couldn't even find a decent video.
"It's when you showed up late at night, I knew you were my type...We fell asleep to "Neverminds", I woke up by your side..."
"You were one in a million, weren't ya? Thought you were one in a million..."
*SORT OF A FILLER: Well, it is not, but due to limited time it kind of is. Anyways, I read somewhere, but don't take my word for it, that this song was about Kurt Cobain.
"You’re like twenty-two girls in one and none of them know what they’re runnin’ from, was it just too far to fall for a little paper doll?
"Cut the cord and pull some strings and make yourself some angel wings and if those angel wings don’t fly someone’s gonna paint you another sky..."
*A QUICK ONE: You may know the background to this song, you may not, I honestly don't think that's important here. I believe this song is chill as hell and that's what I want you to take from it.
And yes, it is, somehow, a hint to you, if you ever get to read it.
Artist: Lorde Song: Buzzcut Season Album: Pure Heorine Year: 2013
"And I'll never go home again, place the call, feel it start, favorite friend, and nothing's wrong but nothing's true, I live in a hologram with you... Where all the things that we do for fun and I'll breathe, and it goes, play along, make believe, it's hyper real but I live in a hologram with you..."
*A QUICK ONE: Cool piece of music we have here. It's a calm song, I can close my eyes to it and get lost in it, but somehow it transmits me some sense of angst. Perhaps it is meant to do that in the first place.
"I need a hitman for my heart, someone to bump it off a balcony, nonchalantly leave the scene, I need a hitman for my heart, it doesn't care who might get hurt, never thinks, only loves recklessly, slow, but sure, it's killing me, I need a hitman for my heart..."
*A QUICK COMMENT: This CD is so good you should all buy it 3 times and give 2 copies away just for the sake of its awesomeness. Jeremy Messersmith is going places.
"Running and running and running and stop, come on we both knew this thing would be hard, I see art, you see class, you think, you ask, you say "Darling am I a chore?" I said I know you love me, I am loving you more..."
*A 'NO COMMENT' COMMENT: Well, a 'hipster comment', well no, well sort of. What I'm trying to say is that if I had been posting, I would have posted this sooner. Anyhow, enjoy it, Although I think I've already burnt this song for me, so I have got to handle it with care.
Artist: Big Data Song: Dangerous Album: 1.0 - EP Year: 2013
"'Cause they know that I shut this down, 'cause they been watching all my windows..."
"You understand, I got a plan for us, I bet you didn't know that I was dangerous, it must be fate, I found a place for us, I bet you didn't know someone could love you this much..."
*A QUICKIE: I heard this song a week ago and again I have to thank 'Shazam', it has to be one of the greatest inventions ever. Anyhow, upon further investigation I found that this duo it's sort of a 'nerdy' combo, not only because of its name, but due to their lyrics as well, focused on the internet, surveillance and technology.
It immediately reminded me of 'Datarock' (one, two and three) and wonder how much influence it had on them.
By the way, the video it's funny. It has bouncing boobs, sexual breathing, a hot dog slap. What else would you want in a video?
Artist: Phosphorescent Song: Song For Zula Album: Muchacho Year: 2013
"Some say love is a burning thing that it makes a fiery ring, oh but I know love as a fading thing, just as fickle as a feather in a stream... See, honey, I saw love, you see it came to me, it puts its face up to my face so I could see, yeah then I saw love disfigure me into something I am not recognizing..."
"You will not see me fall, nor see me struggle to stand to be acknowledged by some touch from his gnarled hands, you see the cage, it called. I said, come on in, I will not open myself this way again..."
*HI THERE: This was the song I was listening YESTERDAY, when the 'Goddess of Randomness' struck. And speaking of her, she was involved with this song as well, see, I was in this restaurant and I really, REALLY had to go to the restroom... And there I was focused on the task, there was background music and this began to play and I said to myself 'Holy crap', (because of the song, not for literal reasons, of course) and thank your favorite deity for 'Shazam'.
About a possible meaning, it seems to be narrated from the perspective of an animal in captivity, like in a zoo or a circus, and the author comparing himself with one. And it talks about this love, a perhaps gone to hell love, it being the cage, trapping you, exposing you, making you the victim, not the predator. It disfigured him emotionally and there is this desire of being free of this cage (love).
"I'm a fool for that shake in your thighs, I'm a fool for that sound in your sighs, I'm a fool for your belly, I'm a fool for your love..."
"I want to make this plain, oh, I know you're fading, mmm, but stay, don't close your hands... Ooohhh, stay open, ooohhh, stay open..."
*A NEW COMMENT: Whoa! Holy shit... It's been a long time since the last time I posted a song in here, and I think I owe everyone (if there was someone) who follows (or followed) my humble blog, for leaving you hanging without at least an explanation. So, SORRY!
The reason, you might wonder, let me correct myself, the reasons, were a mix of lack of motivation, struggle to focus, the feeling of obligation, the lack of ideas, the nuisance it became and life itself, because it happened, and it still is, in a weird way. I don't know, I might touch some of these topics on further publications. Although, let me say this, I will try, I sure will, but there is no certainty it will be a "daily" stuff.
Anyhow, I've been circling the idea of resuming this, and let me point to the reasons above, as the main obstacles. But, oh Dear Goddess of Randomness, I kind of love you... See, I was taking a shower, nothing extraordinary. I had my phone on 'YouTube', listening to a song, which for the sake of 'daily-posting' I will post tomorrow (notice my commitment). But my "smart" phone goes crazy with the steam of the hot shower and becomes unresponsive to the touch or in this case clicks itself, and holy fuck, it clicked on this song, an artist unknown to me and I said to myself "what the hell..." So it played and suddenly I'm blown away and the spark re-ignited. Seriously, what a song! I was going to post it on 'Facebook', but hell, those people don't know jack about music... So here I am, sharing good music.
Life works mysteriously, you will see what I mean... My interpretation of this song is a relationship that is going cold, the video is kind of self-explanatory, t
he guy has slowly drifted from a once happy relationship and the girl senses it, she knows the end is right around the corner, he's aware as well, but they both still care for each other, they cherish the time they spent together and homage whatever is left... Now, some hours before me stumbling upon this song I was kind of coming to terms with a very similar situation, this girl, blah, blah... It fits like a glove, sort of.
So, there you are, people. It's on again. I'm getting this CD tomorrow. and by the way, the voice you hear, it's a man's voice.
