"I love the feeling when we lift off, watching the world so small below I love the dreaming when I think of the safety in the clouds out my window. I wonder what keeps us so high up. Could there be love beneath these wings?
If we suddenly fall should I scream out? Or keep very quiet and cling to my mouth as I'm crying, so frightened of dying, "Relax", yes I'm trying but fear's got a hold on me..."
*A COMMENT: I think this song is about the fear of flying and dying while doing so, you can tell by the many references in the whole song. But beyond that I think it can also be used as a metaphor for love or for life in general. See, in the song he describes how he loves certain things about flying, like when he lifts off, when he watches the world so small, or when the sun drowns in the sea, but the he starts thinking about what could go wrong "Will it fall?" "Who's driving?" and that's when he freaks out and imagine the worst.
In love and life there is no big difference, it all depends on how we handle it. When starting a relationship/activity certain things about it are enjoyed, but let's face it, there are questions that arise in our heads, and when the "plane" starts shaking the freaking out begins, as well as being paranoid, thinking the worst, imagining or own "grave" when maybe nothing's happening but the fear we created is so big that takes over us and stop us from enjoying the things we like about it.

"I saw a friend that I once knew at a funeral, he took the time out to be seen. His eyes kept glancing to the hour hand on the gold watch, that he'd been given by a magazine. He didn't cry when the priest gave the sermon, just pulled up the woolen collar on his fleece, crossed his arms, gave a sigh and checked the time again, as he sat inches from the wife of the deceased..."
*A SECOND COMMENT: This song narrates a short story about a successful guy, a celebrity that return to his hometown for a friend's funeral. This guy realizes how empty his life has become and feels just like the buildings he asked for "run down and so forlorn". And although he's on top and he has earned what he has, he does not feel fulfillment in his life...
And remember... If you liked it, buy it...
