Guns N' Roses - November Rain

Artist: Guns N' Roses
Song: November Rain
Album: Use Your Illusion 1
Year: 1991

"Nothing lasts forever and we both know hearts can change, and it's hard to hold a candle in the cold November rain..."

"Sometimes I need some time on my own, sometimes I need some time all alone, everybody needs some time on their own, don't you know you need some time all alone..."

*A QUICKIE: Awesome song, it is still November, it has rained, the sky did not fall, but it rained just enough to make, my recently washed car, filthy again! But what am I gonna do about it, you know what they say, 'nothing last forever even cold November rain'...

Oh yeah, by the way... Stephanie Seymour, damn gorgeous!

Doves - The Last Son

Artist: Doves
Song: The Last Son
Album: The Places Between: The Best of Doves
Year: 2010

"Born to a northern star with the fallow stretching far, I never knew there's another way, I never knew I'd leave this way..."

"Now I'm an older man, trying to accept the person I am, I was born to live this way, I was bound to live this way...

"But I want to see you again, but I guess that's how it goes, you always hurt the love you know..."

*A COMMENT: I guess this song has a trace of resignation, from the perspective of someone who is 'stuck' with the life that was 'assigned' to him, circumstances have been leading him to certain roads, roads he had no other choice but to follow them... I read or heard, don't quite remember, a phrase that goes like this: "It's not about what life gives you, because probably it's not what you expected, what really matters is what you do with what it's given." And in a way this phrase is right, but fuck! I can't help thinking that it also has traces of mediocrity and conformity, I guess it all depends on the eye of the beholder... HAVE A GOOD START TO THE WEEK!

P.S. This song is also included in the 'Kingdom of Rust' album but the 'iTunes' version and since I don't purchase songs there, I put 'The Place Between...' as 'album' since I have the physical version of it...

Tokyo Police Club - The Harrowing Adventures Of...

Artist: Tokyo Police Club
Song: The Harrowing Adventures Of...
Album: Elephant Shell
Year: 2008

"The harrowing adventures of you and I when we were captains of submarines made of steel, discovering the seven seas fending off the giants of the deep, pendants from hanging teeth..."

"Led me to your old home, set the tables for two alone, pass the salt, pour the wine 'cause I'm alright if you're alright..."

*A REMEMBRANCE: This song reminds me of me and who used to be my best friend when we were just kids. We spend a lot of time at each other's houses, playing literally with our imagination, pfff all the adventures we created, all the games we invented. Mostly inventing several characters with different powers and completing several missions, saving each other, pretty elaborated stuff, funny times. I remember one game we played when we were at my grandparent's house, we went out to the sidewalk and there was this big plant pot, big enough so both of us could hide, we pretended that the cars were some kind of evil entities, so we stood on the sidewalk and we waited for the car to be at a certain distance, and then we ran like hell try to dodge the car by hiding behind the plant pot or sometimes, when we saw we wouldn't reach the pot, a fence a try or even a passerby.

Simpler times, for sure...

The Honorary Title - Stay Away

"Trust me when I say just a few more weeks, don’t move, resist temptation or do as you see fit, just choose..."

"No, I can't dance unless it's slow or sad, to a song that’s far less obvious, if you're using me, do it slowly, make it last until I have to go..."

"Stay away from, stay away from, stay away from me..."

*A QUICKIE: Looking back I realized that it just terribly sucks when, you know what, a word to the wise is enough...

Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds - AKA... What a Life!

Artist: Noel Gallagher's High Flying Bids
Song: AKA... What a Life!
Album: Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds
Year: 2011

"Some day you might find your hero, some say you might lose your mind, I'm keeping my head down now for the summer, I'm out of my mind, man, pour me another..."

Keep on chasing down that rainbow, you never know what you might find over the sunset on the horizon, it may be a dream but it tastes like poison, I'm gonna take that tiger outside for a ride..."

*A COMMENT: So, finally after almost a month of its release, I got this CD, but I think, no, I know, it was worth the wait as I got the 'deluxe' version of it, which contains two bonus tracks and a DVD of the album's making... I'm not going to explore the meaning of this song, not right now, I'm busy listening to the CD, just going to say that I like it and somehow the piano part reminds me of some Moby's song, right now I don't quite remember which one but I'll get to it...

The Killlers - Romeo and Juliet

Artist: The Killers
Song: Romeo and Juliet
Album: Sawdust
Year: 2007

"Well, you can fall for chains of silver, you can fall for chains of gold, you can fall for pretty strangers and the promises they hold, you promised me everything, you promised me thick and thin, now you just say, "Oh, Romeo, yeah, you know I used to have a scene with him""

"I can't do the talk like the talk on the TV and I can't do a love song like the way it's meant to be, I can't do everything but I'd do anything for you, can't do anything except be in love with you..."

"A lovestruck Romeo, he sings the streets of serenade, laying everybody low with a love song that he made, find a convenient streetlight, steps out of the shade, he says something like, "You and me, babe, how about it?""

*A QUICKIE: 'Cover Week' has come to an end and I hope everyone who entered the blog has enjoyed it. The last song is originally by 'Dire Straits' from their 'Making Movies' album. Placebo - Running Up That Hill/Where Is My Mind

Artist: Placebo
Song: Running Up That Hill
Album: Covers
Year: 2003

"It doesn't hurt me, you wanna feel how it feels? You wanna know, know that it doesn't hurt me? You wanna hear about the deal I'm making? You, be running up that hill, you and me be running up that hill..."

"You don't wanna hurt me, but see how deep the bullet lies, unaware that I'm tearing you asunder, there's a thunder in our hearts, baby... So much hate for the ones we love, tell me we both matter, don't we?"

Artist: Placebo
Song: Where Is My Mind
Album: Covers
Year: 2003

"With your feet in the air , and your head on the ground, try this trick and spin it! Yeah! Your head will collapse, but there's nothing in it and you'll ask yourself... Where is my mind? Where is my mind? Where is my mind? Way out, in the water see it swimming..."

*A COMMENT: 'Co, co cover week' is almost over, so why not try to end it the best way possible, with these two tremendous covers! OK, first of all I got lucky enough to find and purchase the edition of 'Sleeping With Ghosts' that had this 'Covers' album as a bonus CD, way back in 2003, then a digital version came up in 2005 and finally until 2010 a physical copy was released... The first song is originally sung by 'Kate Bush' contained in her 'Hounds of Love', but Placebo's version just kills it 5 times before it touches the ground! Seriously, to me this song is Placebo's and not Kate's, just awesome, I remember when I first put this CD in my dad's car stereo, I was blown away, and I think my dad was too, I thought to myself 'what and intro, what a song', needless to say it was played over and over again...

And just after 'Running Up That Hill' ends, it comes 'Where Is My Mind', originally by the always awesome 'Pixies', from their 'Surfer Rosa' album. What a rendition! If you could get a copy of this 'Covers' CD, please, do buy it, I can assure you won't regret it... It also has its own version of 'Daddy Cool' xD

Rock Kills Kid - I Turn My Camera On

Artist: Rock Kills Kid
Song: I Turn My Camera On
Album: The OC Mix 6: Covering Our Tracks
Year: 2006

"When I turn my feelings on, I turn my feelings on inside, I saw them stars go off, I saw them stars go off at night..."

"I turn my feelings off and you, you weren't so polite..."

*A QUICKIE: Yay! It still is 'Cover Week'... The original song is performed by 'Spoon' on their 'Gimme Fiction' album. I first heard this amazing cover, which I like better than the original, while watching the O.C., which by the way, as cheesy as it could become sometimes, it had awesome music on it...

Travis - All the Young Dudes

Artist: Travis
Song: All the Young Dudes
Album: Side Pt. 1

*A BRIEF COMMENT: We're in the middle of the 'Cover Week'. Now it's time for this song, written by 'David Bowie' and sung by 'Mott the Hoople', he wrote it for them to sing it. This version is included in the 'Side' single and it is actually a live recording at Barrowlands, however this video is from their performance at 'Live at Jools Holland' and is not Francis Healy who sings it, but Dogie Payne, the bass player.

I actually first got to know this version of the song (and the song itself) by watching a 9/11 documentary with the same name as the song, it actually begins with the song. Oh yeah, by the way, it's 'Cover Week'...

Young Love - Find A New Way

Artist: Young Love
Song: Find a New Way
Album: Too Young To Fight It
Year: 2007

"If it takes away the pain it’s alright, we're living so hard you might not make it through tonight... Follow the bright lights, they might change you, if you get lost along the way it’s alright..."

"Be what you believe, stand up, break free, be what you believe, bright lights can’t see..."

*A COMMENT: So, 11.11.11, it seems like a numerology date or something like that, I don't quite know how or why, but they say it is a day of change, a day of reformation, a day of peace, and truly I would like to believe that. I don't know, call it what you want, but somehow I identify with this equal numbers thingy as I always (and here I mean ALWAYS) tend to look at the clock when the numbers are the same, i.e. 11:11, 12:12, 19:19, 14:14 and you name it, and the funny thing is I always make a wish, little dumb, I know, but hey, I don't lose a thing by wishing, I've have wondered so many times why that happens and I've also read that that has to do with energetic fields, something that opens our minds, a sign that you are among the chosen ones (for what? I don't have a clue) and stuff like that... Whether is bullcrap or not, it sure is nice to think that that's true and not just a weird coincidence... HAVE A NICE FRIDAY!
