Artist: Kaiser Chiefs
Song: Kinda Girl You Are
Album: The Future is Medieval
Year: 2011
"I first heard you on the radio and felt my heart explode, no other choice, I heard a voice and fell in love with you..."
"Then I saw you in a centrefold, you were looking cold, in just an artfully positioned piece of mistletoe..."
*A COMMENT: To me, it is a kick in the balls when artists re-release their albums with bonus tracks or some new feature, different from the original release. Why is it a kick in the balls? Because some fans, like me, buy the CDs when they were first released and then when the "Deluxe Edition" comes out six months later I feel incomplete and somehow used... I've already bought the CD, and truth be told, I'm not going to buy it again 6 months later for 3 new songs or whatever, nor am I going to buy those songs on iTunes, I like to have physical copies, a CD, but now I can't... Instead I'm going to download it, for free...
If you're going to put out in the market a standard and deluxe edition at the same time, it's fine with me, in fact I appreciate that gesture, that way I can have a choice and most likely I will buy the deluxe edition, I've always like those, that is a way of rewarding a fan, a listener... I feel the same way about 'Greatest hits Cd's'... A true fan already has your CD's, hence the songs of the 'Greatest Hits', but it turns out it contains 2 new songs, oh crap! and you can guess I'm not buying those either... If you're going to release a Greatest Hits album at least do it with a bonus CD containing B-sides or rarities, or something that's actually appealing (not 2 new songs, oh wow) and that truly rewards the fan instead of giving him what he already has with a tiny dose 'here fucker, it shines, have fun while we profit'...
I undestand those are marketing strategies to gain more fans, to reach new niches, hence increase sales and stuff and that sometimes artists does not have a saying due to contractual issues with their label, but then again, they still benefit from those sales, what I'm trying to say here is reward the fans by giving them a little respect and the chance to choose, that will show the kinda band you are.
