Artist: Kashmir
Song: The Curse of Being A Girl
Album: No Balance Palace
Year: 2005
"You pretend that you're allright, the worst noise is when you are keeping quiet, you say you're not that kind of girl, who will dramatize or traumatize..."
"Don't fold your hands, don't hold your tongue, the other girls will try to prove you wrong..."
"It's just the curse of being a girl tonight, you must hold your head up high and be aware that you're the purest pearl tonight..."
*A COMMENT: I love this song, just as much as I love this Danish band. I'm not really sure about the meaning, but here are my two cents, I guess it just tries to describe a bit of the women's behavior from the perspective of a boyfriend, I don't know, I kind of imagine the next situation: They are going to some kind of ball where the girl is going to be, at some point, in the spotlight. Here two possible options come to my mind, she's afraid and a bit insecure because she thinks she won't be up to par or she's also afraid and a bit insecure because she is in that 'time' of the month, or both. (If I was a girl, I would consider that a curse, maybe that's why that possibility comes to my mind). Anyhow, he is trying to cheer her up, as he knows she's capable (of whatever she needs do) and because he kind of knows girls and her mood swings. For example:

Anyhow, he is trying to cheer her up, as he knows she's capable (of whatever she needs do) and because he kind of knows girls and her mood swings. For example:
- "You pretend that you're allright, the worst noise is when you are keeping quiet". He knows that silence is a sign of she not being OK, even if he asks her, she will say she's OK, but he knows best.
- "Don't fold your hands, don't hold your tongue, the other girls will try to prove you wrong". Wherever they are going (my guess is a ball), there are going to be more girls, and as I said she is going to be in the spotlight at some point and girls can be so mean to each other (ie. judging her dress, her hair), she knows it (she's done it), he knows it (he's seen her do it), so he tries to encourage her to screw the other girls and stand her ground.
- "You're reaching out to grab his hand but he must be the world's most tired man, acerbic in his compliments, if he sees it all, your new shoes and all". He knows he has to be careful with what he says, that stress him a bit, but he also knows that she is already disturbed enough to cope with any "wrong" comment, so if he sees something to compliment he must use it all, he must be clever and funny.
- "It should be unforgettable, the cloudy sky should be convertible and then we end in this smokey hole full of concubines and replicants". They both know (as a certain fact) that wherever they are going, there going to find "fake" and hypocrite people, people who don't know how to keep their mouth shut and mind their own, these people are there just as a "trend", not because they really care and this couple knows it, but for them it is special, so they are a bit uneasy.
