Modest Mouse - The World At Large/Little Motel

Artist: Modest Mouse
Song: The World At Large
Album: Good News For People Who Love Bad News
Year: 2004

"Walked away to another plan, going to find another place, maybe one I can stand..."

"Well, uh-uh, baby, I ain't got no plan, we'll float on maybe would you understand?"

"Walked on off to another spot, I still haven't gotten anywhere that I want. Did I want love, did I need to know? Why does it always feel like I'm caught in an undertow?"

"I know that starting over is not what life's about but my thoughts were so loud I couldn't hear my mouth..."

*A QUICKIE: Right now, this song, the lyrics... Pure empathy to me... I'm trying to make sense of it all, finding a meaning, finding the right place... Like I've said to some of my friends, I'm not that bad, I'm not that well, right now I'm just 'normal'. I hope that does not take its toll with the people I know, all I can ask them is for some patience if I'm not showing the best version of me, if there ever was one :)

Artist: Modest Mouse
Song: Little Motel
Album: We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank
Year: 2007

"We trade tit for tat like that for this and I don't think that there was an insult that was missed. I can see it in your eyes like I taste your lips and I'm very sorry..."

"The remainders of a shooting star landed directly on our broke-down little car, before then we had made a wish that we would be missed if one or another just did not exist..."

*A QUICKIE 2: I was exercising today and everything was fine and I know it is going to sound so very cheesy, but all of the sudden, out of nowhere, I got this really really bad feeling and felt something in the heart, like a void, a breaking. I began to feel so uneasy, I don't know, I just felt like something happened in another place, at the distance, and that led me to think that everything had gone to ruin with this girl, so weird, and I don't know, I'm hoping big time that nothing has happened and that it has been just my imagination...

Nickelback - Should've Listened

Artist: Nickelback
Song: Should've Listened
Album: The Long Road
Year: 2003

"There's clothes all over the floor, I don't remember them being here before, smell of perfume isn't here, why's lipstick on the mirror? And still I don't understand..."

"Well now I guess I should've listened when you said you'd had enough, a little trick I picked up from my father in one ear and out the other, whys love gotta be so tough?"

*A STORED COMMENT: This is the comment I wanted to make and had mentioned on Saturday's post, but to be honest I was bit lazy and didn't feel like writing, but here it is.

On Friday I was talking to an aunt and she told me that her daughter, who is going through puberty, was out of control. I remembered what it was like to go through that age, and indeed it is a difficult one, after the talk with my aunt and putting myself into my cousin's shoes, I thought maybe I could talk to her, if she listens that's a win, although the odds are she won't and maybe she'd be pissed or me being ignored.

The point I am trying to get to is that generally at certain points of our lives, especially as a kid/teenager, when someone older comes and tells/advises us something about our behavior or about the future or about anything, and they are doing it because they have already gone through that, they have experience and want to help, but again as a kid/teenager your interests are other, your mind is somewhere else and the reactions are these: you either get pissed because you don't need no one telling you what to do OR you pretend to listen and then discard what you have been told. But then as time passes and you grow older you start noticing stuff and realizing some other and then it dawns on you and you say "How right was my dad/mom or whoever told you that" and if life is generous you get to do things right in due time but there are some other cases where it takes more time to fix your actions, if they can be fixed, all because at some point you did not listen...

HAVE A GOOD START TO THE WEEK!

'Cause the world won't turn if the sun won't rise. And the stars won't burn in a broken sky. And the wind won't surf if the ocean's dry. And my heart won't work if you say goodbye..."

"If you say goodbye, if you say goodbye, if you say goodbye, my heart's in trouble..."

*NOT A COMMENT JUST A LITTLE NOTE: PLEASE IGNORE THE CRAPPY VIDEO OF THE "YOU ARE MINE" SONG, WHICH CONTAINS MATERIAL FROM THAT CRAPPY SAGA, BUT THAT WAS THE ONLY VERSION I COULD FIND WITH THE SAME LENGTH AS THE VERSION I HAVE... SO, ENJOY!!

Death Cab For Cutie - You Are a Tourist

Artist: Death Cab For Cutie
Song: You Are a Tourist
Album: Codes and Keys
Year: 2011

"When there's a doubt within your mind because you're thinking all the time, framing rights into wrongs, move along, move along, when there's a doubt within your mind..."

"When there's a burning in your heart and you think it'll burst apart or there's nothing to feel, save the tears, save the tears, when there's a burning in your heart..."

"And if you feel just like a tourist in the city you were born then it's time to go, and define your destination, there's so many different places to call home. Because when you find yourself the villain in the story you have written, it's plain to see that sometimes the best intentions are in need of redemptions. Would you agree? If so please show me..."

*A QUICKIE: I know that lately there have been a lot of quickies... but then again it is the music that matters. Actually this time I have something to write, but I'm going to leave it for some other day, I know it can wait a bit more... So for now enjoy the new stuff of 'Death Cab For Cutie'. It kind of reminded me of 'Two Door Cinema Club' because of the guitar riff and the name of the song.

P.S. Whoa! with the last quotation.

P.S. 2 I cannot stand irresponsible people...

P.S. 3 HAVE A NICE WEEKEND!! :)

Just Jack - Writer's Block/Starz in Their Eyes

Artist: Just Jack
Song: Writer's Block
Album: Overtones
Year: 2007

"I get this writer's block, it comes as quite a shock and now I'm stuck between a hard place and the biggest rock. In my own head consume, I sit back in my room, it's like the tapestries of life get tangled in the loom..."

"I'm lovin' Mary Jane, flyin' with Lois Lane, on board a bullet train, don't know yet if I'm glad I came..."

"Sometimes at night I think too much, about life and love and music and stuff..."

Artist: Just Jack
Song: Starz in Their Eyes
Album: Overtones
Year: 2007

"Now why do you wanna go and put starz in their eyes? It's the same old story well they just didn't realize, and it's a long way to come from the dog and duck karaoke machine and Saturday night's drunken dreams..."

*A COMMENT: I post this song (the first one, the second one is just a treat, or not :D) because lately I've been writing a lot at work, I jot these short notes on these little pieces of paper, cut like if they were 'Post-its', I do it when something worthwhile comes to my mind. I carry these little pieces of paper wherever I go because you never know when something awesome is coming your way, you could try to remember but then you risk forgetting it. The idea here is having something I can develop later, put some work into it and make something better.

It could be said that I'm not that new at this, because I have written some stuff and I have at least 10 "songs" but some of them are still unfinished and yet to be improved. The "tricky" part is to find a nice rhyme that has to do with what you are trying to express and as I said that rhyme has to be at least decent, you don't want to sound lame. I'm still honing this "skill" and I hope to get really good at it.

Today I had this block, everything that came to my mind was rubbish and really lame stuff, I got a little desperate, but I had a little reward too, I saw this phrase on the wall and it hit me right in the head, suddenly I felt like "whoa! jot that down", it was like when you are looking so hard for something and suddenly, when you least expect it, you find it and you get very excited. I expect to develop all the notes I have jotted down this week on the weekend. To me the bitching part is coming up with a melody, that's where the gold is! I always end up humming or playing an existing one.

"Blade of grass in her aching fist, sets her jaw, no she won't quit. She'll take the fight to streets and avenues, a little dirt can make a flower bloom..."

*ANOTHER QUICKIE: I think it's been awhile since I last posted a song I have heard on 'Chuck'. So here it is. The first song is the one I actually heard there, the second song is just a treat. :)

"The open road, the path of greatness it's at your fingers. Go be the one that keeps on fighting, go be the stranger. Just put your foot in front the other, crow like the rooster. Be all and all, together something, fear is a danger..."

*A QUICKIE: Lately I've been listening a lot to Kings of Leon, in my car, while I'm at work, at the gym, etc. These last two days were remarkably slow, boring and "lazy" at work and these two songs stood out from the rest, specially the first one, What is the relation between these two facts? I don't know, music has just been helping me get through the boring days and as I said these two song stood out from the rest. Enjoy.

Incubus - Adolescents

Artist: Incubus
Song: Adolescents
Album: If Not Now, When?
Year: 2011

"I'm feeling out of bounds, out of bounds, I'm running out of time, out of time. I know there's no such thing as either of them but its doesn't make me feel any better..."

*UH! UH! AH! AH!: When I heard this almost a month ago on the radio I was like "OMFG! Incubus new record, must buy now". Seriously I cannot wait for July 12th to come. I'm really excited about this, I've heard a preview of the album and it sounds different from previous records but different does not mean bad, on the contrary it seems like is going to be a killer one, besides Incubus has never disappointed me. In case you don't now Incubus is my favorite band, so I guess you could say my opinion is a little biased, but I don't really care, I am able to recognize when I don't like the work done by some of the bands I like and I'll be the first to say it, but as I said, Incubus has never let me down and I know they won't with this one.

Patrick Park - Life Is A Song

Artist: Patrick Park
Song: Life is A Song
Album: Everyone's in Everyone
Year: 2007

"You say life is a dream where we can't say what we mean, maybe just some roadside scene that we're driving past. There's no telling where we'll be in a day or in a week and there's no promises of peace or of happiness..."

"Well is this why you cling to every little thing and pulverize and derrange all your senses. Maybe life is a song but you're scared to sing along until the very ending..."

"Oh, it's time to let go of everything we used to know, ideas that strengthen who we've been. It's time to cut ties that won't ever free our minds from the chains and shackles that they're in..."

"Well life is a dream 'cause we're all walking in our sleep, you could see us stand in lines like we're dead upon our feet. And we build our house of cards and then we wait for it to fall always forget how strange it is just to be alive at all..."

*JUST A THOUGHT: This is a really beautiful song that summarizes a lot of things about life like taking it for granted and not living up to our full potential mainly because we are afraid of the risks it implies or afraid of letting go of things, the past or something that is holding us down.

Life is unpredictable and maybe that is why plans are somehow unnecessary, I've already touched this point in a previous post, it is nice to have them but the truth is we don't know what will happen. To me life is made out of moments, and it could occur that in one you want something so bad, but in another something happens and modifies your perspective, as well as your plans. The latter does not happen all the times, things may change in life but sometimes our objective is the same, just now harder to reach.

Lately my life has been, let's call it weirder, weirder than it had been being. I find myself in a turning point, where I must choose what I want out of my life, how I want it to be. It all comes down to being afraid, thinking about the risks, implications and limitations, after all it is a big choice. Will I have what it takes? Will someone be supportive? Will I succeed? Will I fail? Will I end up alone? and HOW will I do it? Are some of the questions that run through my mind these days. Are there some warning signs? I think the first and most important sign is that I'm not truly content with where I am right now and casually there is this poster near my desk that says something like that "You'll never discover new oceans as long as you are afraid to walk away from the coast." Should that be a second sign? I don't even now if I should take them as signs or not, but what if the things I have been coming across, watching, listening and feeling are supposed to mean something? What if is a wicked way of fate of telling me "screw this, go for it"? Time and me will tell.

P.S. The following has nothing to do with the post but needs to be written. In order for people to complain about something or to recriminate somebody, they must remember what their actions have been in the past so they can avoid being incongruous as perhaps you once did what you are complaining about or recriminating. At least I did stuff and did say goodbye...

Spoon - Got Nuffin

Artist: Spoon
Song: Got Nuffin
Album: Transference
Year: 2010

"When that blood goes rattling through my veins, my ears start to ring, I notice what matters..."

"When I can't find the way to reach you my love I'm just not the same, just the same..."

"And I got nothing to lose but darkness and shadows, got nothing to lose but loneliness and patterns..."

*A 'I DON'T KNOW HOW TO CALL IT': Don't you hate it when people are so closed-minded? I think closed-mindedness is one of the worst things that could ever happen to you along with lack of common sense. How to describe it? Let's see, you are dealing with someone, you know what the right thing to do is, you also know that the other person knows what the right thing to do is but still he/she is so unreceptive, so damn stubborn and even cynical, they see the magnitude of the situation but they don't think beyond that, their vision falls short and instead of helping they just obstruct your way... But wait a minute, maybe they're just stupid...

That they just recently disbanded!!! What the fuck!!! Seriously? Come on!! To me it was a band with so much future, they have been gaining notoriety! Outdoing themselves on every CD. It was one band to be more than aware of... Ah shit! it is an enormous shame...
